Do your research and impress your mom.
Try to find a nurse, doctor, or dietician (maybe at your school) and talk to them about it. Be warned though, many are completely ignorant about vegetarianism, if they are just move on to someone else.
Then do some research for yourself, what you plan to eat, what nutrients you need, how many calories per day you plan to have. If you're going to be vegan, identify how you will obtain protein (it's very easy, but your mom will definitely ask), calcium (ditto), iron (ditto), omega 3 fatty acids, and vitamin B12 and vitamin D.
Then figure out how much more (or less) it will cost for your mom. This will show real maturity on your part.
Offer to keep a food log of what you eat as well.
Finally, you can offer to cook one meal a week (or more) for the family. (Make sure you have learned to cook first though before your first attempt. You don't want to turn people off.) This will save your mom some work, and everyone will get an awesome vegetarian meal that day!

I know your pain. I was forbidden to become a veg. b/c of "health concerns". More like a lack of education about other non meat eating lifestyles. You should first educate yourself about your nutrition. And if you feel that you are not going to get most of your recommeded daily amounts of minerals and vitamins then get yourself a GOOD multivitamin. Then try to educate your mom or family. Don't worry I know it will be hard b/c I am a Nutrition Major and vegetarian and my family still tries to prove me wrong. Also look up a few vegetarian recipes or just take out the meat in some of your family's favorites. Serve the food to them (don't tell them its veg. til after they eat) and watch their reactions. My family was so pleased with how good some of the food was they didn't even notice the meat gone! I hope everything works out for you.. I wasn't able to completely become a veg. until i went to college. Remember get ALL the info you can so you can have an excellent arguement.

Dear Sassy cat (that is your name right)
I totally support you idea of being a vegetarian .I am one too.
Try to convince your parent to buy Morning Star ground up meat they can put it in as a substitute to real meat in spagetii or tacos.Just try beacuse ya know it taste just like meat even the most meat eater will eat it. Or ask them if they will take you to the store and get you Boca burgurs they too also taste like meat. You will need some good things to eat so how about A nice salad, what ever veggie is searved at that particular meal and it would not hurt to ask the 'cook' if they will make a small section of the main part of they meal eitho out meat.Trust me it will only add a few minutes to do it . And when you go out to eat there are a really good places to eat that cater to meat eaters adn vegitarians alike

Show your mom U know what you're doing get vegetarian books from the Library or local bookstore or health food store read some and leave a few laying around... Your mom might just be tempted to try a few on the urge to eat something different!

Not sure how old you are but a lot of people raise their children from birth being vegetarians! I've been a vegetarian for almost (only) 6 months and I've been feeling great. Do your research, even if you have to prepare your own food at dinner, do it! It's not only beneficial to your body but of course to the animals (my main reason for doing it). Take your vitamins or look up the natural way of getting your vitamins and protein. They're in a lot of vegetables! Good luck!

Cheese pizza is first-rate. Vegetarian chili (sans meat) is first-rate. Vegetarian lasagna is tremendous. Mashed potatoes with vegetable gravy...Tacos! Nachos. Something I love is a meatball sub with out the meatballs- simply the marinara sauce, cheese, mayo and scorching peppers. I'm now not first-rate with the nutrients facet of being vegetarian, however I do recognize what tastes well. :)

I had the same problem when I was your age. She has reason for concern- a lot of teenagers who become vegetarians don't supplement their diet with the nutrients they need- and it's especially hard if youre living in a family of meat-eaters. Just make it clear to her that you're committed to your choice and do your homework- get to know foods that will provide you with iron, protein and other nutrients you need.
