omg, im gunna be a senior next year but i have a 1.8 GPA. My grades are falling because it's very hard for me to focus in school. every time a homework assignment is due i end up wasting 15 minutes looking for it. My goal is to make my GPA to a 3.0 this 4th quarter but i cant do it with 1 B an 2 A's, 1 D and a C. in my classes. I take Adderal XR 10mg, i asked my doctor to maximize my dose just like he did with my Wellbutrin XL 300MG. Because i feel that adderal isnt working at all.
I tend to be very impulsive and say stupid things. and people laugh at me. I cant make any friends, i always sit alone. i tried to keep silent , its too difficult. i just cant stop talking. I cant focus in class. College's will never accept me. I feel i'll never get a scholarship, just because of my GPA.
Please help

I'm a freak aren't I? I'm starting to believe that ADHD is getting in the way of my goals. I wish i was normal like other students

Ok, I can't spend one school year w/o running out of meds for a long peiod of time, finding a doctor, not having enough cash to get another perscription

Have you tried ritalin (not the extended release)? This was the first and is often the most effective treatment for ADHD.
Also, it is hard to focus for many students. Try not to get frustrated and study hard.
You can do it.

Hi. Don't have a whole lot to say here. but after years of trying the drug combo that works for me is Wellbutrin and Lamictal. it's an anti seizure drug. I dropped the classic ADHD drugs (like Adderal) altogether. I was also one that just talked all the time :) and I can't even imagine what it must feel like to take Adderal and Wellbutrin at the same time, maybe you're so "up" that you can't focus
Maybe it's worth asking your doctor about. Lamictal on it's own isn't worth crap, but with Wellbutrin it's done me a lot of good.
And as far as school goes, make sure you are in an activity like sports or art. Those things go a long way in helping you get into college.
Good luck sweetheart!!

I am 37 and have been ADHD all of my life. I have trouble focusing at work and elsewhere. I didn't do so hot in college, and never graduated. The good news is college isn't the ticket to success like it once was. I have done well without it and am making a decent living. I had to start with some low level jobs until I made up a decent working record. Even with a couple of ADHD related firings, I made my way ok. I just kept plugging away even though it seemed my body chemistry was against me. Work on your self awareness. Your goal should be to work on your impulsiveness instead of your GPA. If you can catch yourself before you spout off even once in a while, then you are making progress. You will then see results in your GPA and even your social life.

Diet is as important as meds. if not more so. Don't eat foods made with sugar or bleached flour. And stay away from "diet" foods and artificial sweeteners, especially sodas. Definitely avoid caffeine and alcohol, they can create extreme mood swings. PROTEIN is the best food for ADHD, as well as fresh vegetables and then fruits. Limit fruits because they contain quite a bit of sugar. Avoid crackers, chips and "snack" foods. If you must have some eat only whole grain. And drink lots of water!!! Omega 3 from fish or fish oil supplements is also very effective for brain function.
Get out and exercise every day, even if it's just a walk. It really helps. I know from experience.

You could try putting some marbles in your mouth, as a reminder to not talk, or maybe one bigger one. Take a zinc supplement, and 4 fish oil supplements, daily. Consider trying Attend medication, or Strattera, or Ritalin, or Concerta. A second opinion may be in order, as some doctors get set in their ways. Give each at least 5 weeks to evaluate effectiveness, and taper off/change only under medical advice. Drink 4 cups of coffee/day. You're not a freak, your mind is just in overdrive. It's like looking out the window while in a moving car and trying to concentrate on each tree outside, it's impossible. Just explain this to your parents and ask to see your doctor. He/she may switch you, because it's about trail and error until you find the right match. Don't be hard on yourself. You didn't choose this. It's like diabetes which needs to be monitored, it's not your fault and you're not a freak, you sound like a very consciencous young lady. Seek and you shall find the key to your problem; your doctor can help. ;o)
Good luck to you.

Cheat off other people who are smart. I say this because you only have a couple of months before school ends and if your symptoms are this servere their is most likely no way you are going to get that GPA unless you make friends with all the smartest kids in school. Copy from them and take good cheat notes.....and oh yea try not to get caught! Their is nothing worst than a cheater who gets caught cheating.

my son has ADHD, he was taken off of Adderall XR because it had no effect on him ,his doctor switched him to Concerta 27mg morning and 18mg afternoon , I have seen his grades improve, and his attention span has become more focused, discuss with your doctor your concerns, he may recommend, another medication, if not get a second opinion, i went through 3 doctors until i found one, that would actually, give him the help he needs best of luck to you

Talk to your doc and try another med. My son tried adderall and it didn't work for him. We went through several before we found Concerta, which has been a lifesaver. Good luck sweetie...
