well, lower carbs per meal and eat more protein. you should have the in-between snacks as well. the only think you really have to change is if u are a candy junkie, none of that, and no soda unless its diet. but otherwise, diabetics can have the same "meals" as everyone else, just modified portions.

I am pregnant and diabetic type 1. I've only had it as long as I have been pregnant. But, my diet has had to change drastically to assure my sugar levels remain stable. I usually eat protein and veggies with a tiny, tiny bit of some whole grain bread for dinner and lunch. For breakfast I usually just have eggs. Then you get snacks in between all your meals to make sure your sugar levels don't drop too drastically, so I usually have an apple with peanut butter or a banana with some PB crackers. Sometimes it varies when I get hungry. But, a diabetic diet is basically no more than just eating very healthy and cutting out all sugars...(occasionally though I will have a bite or two of chocolate or something) but, make suer everything you eat has lots of protein (to sustain hunger) and fiber...and drink lots of water. I guaratee being on this diet will make you a more healthy person and not to mention....if you have any extra weight you are looking to lose, it will come off.

That's smart that you want to eat like a diabetic because every diet out there is based on a diabetic diet. Low carbs are key. Remember it's not just about bread. For example: Peas, carrots, and tomatoes turn into sugar just like breads, cookies or cakes. Moderation is key and watch portions. Buy small plates so that you don't overeat. I assure you will lose weight in a very healthy way! Oh and move your body-get walking.
