Old Standbys scalloped potatoes, baked beans, potato/macaroni salad, baked ham, meatballs swedish or in spaghetti sauce. various cookies. Some people have gone to making the wedding cake out of cupcakes so they can have different kinds. Rent a fountain for a punch or pick up the chocolate fountains (49.00) and have diff dippers. Can probably borrow everyone's crockpots to keep the hot items hot. Been told its cheaper to buy a fountain than to rent one if you can get by with a little one.

As a chef and event organiser (woo get me) I often think that simple is the way to go if you want to please a wide audience.
I would go for large joints of roasted meats with a couple of salads (say a green salad and coleslaw) with some really nice ciabatta type rolls. You should also include something for the vegetarians - a vegetable quiche or a huge spanish tortilla would do that.
The ladies can have a nice ham or chicken salad, the men have hearty doorstep sandwiches, the kids can build their own sandwiches and no one worries too much about their manners as at a really posh buffet and its a lot less hassle than preparing lots of fiddly vol-au-vonts and stufff. If you can get a couple of people in chef whites to carve the meat for your guests so much the better!
If you want you can add to this - a whole dressed salmon, different salads, a seafood salad, fruit, etc etc.

Do an assortment of finger foods - that way everyone will find something they like. Pick several from the following: mini quiches, bacon wrapped scallops, wings, mini eggrolls, finger sandwiches ( make some pb & j for the little ones) pigs in a blanket, steamed shrimp, cheese platter, fruit tray w/dip,etc.....The size of the reception will tell how many selections you'll want.....Congrats!!

When I got married, we had a seafood buffet - it also included some chicken and salads. Shrimp, crab rolls, fried perch. Delicious! Kids seem to love peel and eat shrimp and the adults enjoyed the rest of the fair.

Go to Sam's Club and by a round of those mini quiches. Everyone likes them, and it's one less thing you have to prepare. (Although I hope you aren't preparing this all on your own.)
Rumaki with some sweet and sour sauce. (But leave out the chicken livers, since almost no kid and many adults dislike it.)
Tea Sandwiches and other little bite sized bits (recipe ideas below):

Im somewhat stunned on the countless solutions here. No, in the event that they are not going to be invited to the marriage you need to no longer invite them to the engagement party. i comprehend your intentions are solid, yet that sounds like a slap in the face for those human beings. the two have a good decrease funds wedding ceremony so which you will invite anybody, OR be content to "save it small and intimate". EDIT: some people who've an intimate holiday spot wedding ceremony a techniques away, have a reception whilst they return. That way, anybody develop into excluded from the marriage yet secure in the social gathering. I dont think of your travellers could sense indignant with that.
