Hi! It's not necessarily the case that a deposit placed on a rented space(as in a restaurant for birthdays, etc.) will be refunded. You'll really want to check the person you booked with, or read the contract (in some or most cases, they'll have you sign a contract). I think places can vary in their policy to offer you no refund at all once you pay the deposit, or offer you a full refund if you cancel before a certain period of time, and then offer you no or a partial refund, if you cancel after a certain period of time. Good luck getting your deposit back, if you're in that situation...

we have a party room in our candy store and require a deposit to have a party hosted here. the deposit is non refundible because we 1 could have booked the room to someone else and are now losing money if you cancel, 2 have a schedule made based on you booking that party and now have to pay that those employees even though the party has been canceled, and 3 have ordered supplies based of the number of people the room was reserved for and still have to pay for those as well.

the deposit covers our cost of the party so we are able to stay in business.

we didn't require a deposit when we first started doing parties, however we had three birthday parties booked on mother's day last year and all three cancelled at the last minute because they forgot it was mother's day they booked on.
we lost an entire day's sales.

Yes, if your party does not trash the place.
There is a difference between a security deposit and a cleaning fee!

P.S. Don't confuse rent with a deposit.

In my experience, the deposit goes towards the over all cost..they simply just use it as a form of payment against your over all total
