Hi, im 27 years old,
My doctor said that I have high cholesterol level, and gave me a prescription pill, called TRICOR , but i dont understand how bad it is, here is the way that is broken down in the paper i have.

CHOLESTEROL = 179 MG/DL <200
TRIGLYCERIDE= 291 H MG/DL <150

Can someone tell me if this is really bad?

Your total cholesterol is 179, the desired level is less than 200, so you are alright there. Your triglyceride is 291, the desired level is less than 150. This presents a problem in that your triglyceride level is nearly double the recommended amount. Tricor is fenofibrate. Fenofibrate is a medication used to lower triglyceride levels in your blood.

Normally when a blood test is done to check cholesterol the total cholesterol as well as the HDL (good cholesterol) and the LDL (bad cholesterol) levels are given. Triglycerides are checked as well.

Check the links below to learn much more. You can be overwhelmed by too much information, so take your time and digest the info completely before moving on. You may also ask your doctor about anything you don't understand fully. You may also contact me with other questions. I will try to find the answer for you.

I take another brand of fenofibrate called Triglide as well as cholesterol medications to raise the HDL and lower the LDL. I have high LDL and Triglyceride and low HDL. This is a dangerous combination. I had open heart surgery in October 2006. A total of five bypasses were put in place. Further I had my Gallbladder removed in February 2007 and I am bipolar, so in the last year or so I have become rather educated on these subjects.

Hope this helps,
Terry

Garlic makes your arteries stronger and more pliable (for the want of a better word) so helps protect against ruptured arteries; which I suspect is probably something that you don't want. There is a natural remedy for all blood pressure problems in the form of a weed called Green Buckwheat (Not sure about the spelling). You can get Green Buckwheat tablets from good health food shops, just follow the directions. In truth you should address your high blood pressure problem. Do you eat a lot of salt, if so cut down (but slowly though!) Do you suffer a lot of stress, if so either remove the stressors or sprinkle some Chamomile Roman essential oil around your house to reduce the stress that you're feeling. Put some on a hanky for when you're feeling really stressed. Hope this helps.

It looks like your cholesterol level is fine being below 200 mg/dl. Your Triglycerides are high at 291 when they should be less than 150. This is not a super high level but high enough to be treated. Good luck to you..... I use the same drug for the same condition.

Follow his instructions, you'll be fine.

Your total cholesterol isn't bad it's your triglycerides that extremely high. Eat a lot of whole grains, get milled flax seed, take garlic tablets. You need to get that down. That's bad. you need olive oils, canola oils. exercise, cut back on drinking, stuff like that. I eat a bowl of milled flax every morning. It tastes like crap but it's so good for you. And I snack on quaker oatmeal squares cereal, and usually eat 2 slices of whole grain toast with peanut butter, and a container of cherry tomatoes for dinner. And I run at least 30 minutes a day.
