Have activities for the children - parents will be more relaxed and can have more fun if the kids are safely occupied.
BBQ also helps because it gives ppl a chance to mingle as the meal is being prepared.
Don't forget safety - nothing is more off-putting than watching flies descend on lunch.
Get music - involve the teenagers and let them pick the music. They'll have fun with that.
ENJOY!

How cool is that... ok so this is what I would do.
I would send out fliers and set a date, and let the neighbors know you will provide the meat and the salad ( because some may be Vegatarian) anyway in your flyer, have it be called something like "Time to get to know the neighbors"
Then ask if everyone can bring one dish or chips or beans gotta make it simple because of cost make sure you have plenty of water and lemonaid and gatoraid I think most would come I would are you in Missouri by chance? LOL

Wow! The Kranks Bar-B-Que! I would make up flyers on the computer and put one in everyones mail or just give it to them.Ask if they would bring a six pack of drink or a couple lg. bottles of pop and a side dish, or salad- you provide the meat, burgers, hot dogs, sausage, steak, ribs and cooking sauces Put the Boom box and Bar-b-que cooking center on the front lawn under a big canopy, a bunch of beach chairs, beach balls, volleyball net and a badmitten net with a few raquettes handy, Horseshoe area to one side, some folding tables red checkered cloths taped down.Folding tables or picnic tables and umbrellas around the yard, fill up wash tubs or horse troughs with ice and drinks and there you go!

Great idea! Print off invites and hand deliver to the doors. You can do a preliminary meet here, then give them the invite as a reminder. Tell them it's potluck adn to bring their specialty, a card table if they have one, and enough lawn chairs for their family.
You show up and have music, couple tables, couple chairs, your food, drinks, whatever... and a big smile on your face. You may want to have neighbors write down names, phone # and addresses so you can photocopy and give a copy to all involved.
Should be fun!

Call you City Hall and ask them about having a block party. We do that in my neighborhood and they give us the things you put in the street to close the street and we party there. Bring out the grills and everyone brings their own meat/chicken and then everyone brings salads, chips, desserts, etc...to share. Call a couple of your neighbor to start organizing, make up flyers and pass out to everyone.
