Hi. I'm 15 years old, and I have been a complete vegetarian since I was 10 (no meat, poultry, gelatin, and other by-products). Two years ago I decided to become a vegan, but my doctor told my parents that I was too young, so they didn't let me. As a strong animal rights activist, I feel like a hypocrite eating dairy products, since I'm aware of the extreme abuse of dairy-producing animals on factory farms. I've decided to become a vegan again, but I was looking at a list of what they can't eat, and it's overwhelming! What can I eat as a substitute for cheese, milk, eggs, etc.?

My 10 year old sons are vegan. If a doctor ever told me that they were too young, my first step would be to find them a new doctor.
My boys are extremely healthy and don't miss any animal products. They too decided that they just couldn't eat it any more.
As a teen, I would recommend getting adequate protein, first and foremost. Soy products, nuts and avocados are great for that.
As a replacement for milk, try soy milk, of course. To substitute eggs, enerG egg replacer works great in recipes. Cheese can be replaced by either vegan cheese (check the labels) or nutritional yeast.
Also, I tell my boys that what they are doing is a wonderful decision, but that if they 'slip up' and eat something with butter or something, then it will help them to be more cautious next time.
Many ppl go vegan cold turkey, so to speak, while others need to ease into it. Do what is best for you.
Good luck.

right for you :-) As for eating out.. i've got not 'ate out' in years, lol. So no advice for you there. Snacks? Nature Valley Peanut Butter Bars or some thing.. nuts, rice tarts, any fruit or vegetable, Triscuits, Wheat Thins... I consume multiple cereal. With almond milk needless to say. Thomas Cinnamon Swirl bagels are rather good. Earth stability is fantastically plenty a staple for any vegan. i'm too lazy to think of of greater, :-P you need to look at Peta's by risk Vegan checklist. And continuously Google something you're uncertain approximately... incredibly organic flavors! i become eating Chex mixture for the longest time until eventually now i found out it won't be able to be vegan :-( i'm hoping a number of this facilitates.

I found rice milk to be the best replacement for milk. No one is too young to be vegan! People raise their children as vegans. Get some information to show to your parents and doctor about veganism. Peta has a lot of good info and they also have a site specifically for teens. Try it out. Good luck...oh and as for cheese, they make tofu cheese, i just don't like it!

cheese- they have vegan cheeses, follow your heart is good.

For mac and cheese style cheese, go to http://chreese.com or look for Roads End Organics products. It's pretty good.

For milk, soy rice or almond milk

for eggs-
baking- use EnerG egg replacr
for scrambled- use tofu

There are vegan analogues for almost everything, but if your favorite food is Angel Food Cake, you're going to be out of luck.

Also there's tons of other foods to try, look at the recipes on http://www.vegweb.com and give some a try.

The analogues are good for transition, but there are so many other possibilities to try you will eventually not need them or miss them.

Perhaps you could find a happy compromise, like I did. Check to see if there is a local dairy farm or food co op where you can buy milk from pampered cows-I liked it so much I invested in my own cow!! Then, you can also churn the fresh cream into butter, and learn to make homemade cheese-or buy cheese from the dairy or co op. That way, you are not contributing to the mistreatment of animals, and will be pleasing your parents and doctor. Good luck! Email me if you need further info.
