In the old days, prior to antibiotics, strep throat was fatal by the infection going down an artery directly to the heart.

Similarly strepto/staphyllo coccus can attack any valve if the immune system is very weak.
They can also attack the kidneys, and synovial joints.

If not treated correctly the infection can get into your blood stream and wreak havoc with vital organs.
