Do you think that it is ethical for a "veggie" to manage a steakhouse?

And what if you have to pay your mortgage and car note and don't have a college degree yet? As soon as possible I am going to go back to school so that I can be a teacher of something real. Am I exploiting the system in which I don't believe?

I don't quite know how this job found me. I don' think that it is ok to eat animal products, meat, broth, geletan etc. I haven't concientiously eaten any animal products for some time .

I bring my own cooking utensils to work. As well as my own dairy-free baked goods.

If it makes you feel any better I once ran some relatives burger joints. I quit when told that a veggie running a burger joint was like a nun running a whorehouse. I'll tell you that you'll feel a LOT better once you don't have all that burned animal grease saturating your clothing, skin etc. I could also afford to quit!!

Maybe I'm ignorant on the definition of a vegetarian, but I don't see a problem with you managing a steak house. You probably should avoid making any recommendations on meat though, ;) lol.
Just because you don't eat meat, doesn't mean you pass judgment on those who do. Furthermore, most people I know have "sold out" to pay the bills. There are not many who truly do what they "want" and what they believe in, and still get paid.
Like I said before, maybe I'm uneducated on the true meaning, but I assume the only ethical problem you'd face is if you are vegan versus vegetarian...

Those ppl are gonna eat meat whether you're there or not

I work as a chef, and i'm a vegetatian, but i justify by the same rational, and feel that if i put extra love and care into the veggie dishes i cook wherever i'm workin, maybe i'll make ppl consider the option a bit more.

You can't change the world, just put a really well thoughout, colourful, varied veggie menu on in ur steakhouse and maybe one or two ppl'll have a second though about it.

not ethical but sometime we are in situations where we have to make compremises! I'm a cook and a a vegetarian but sometimes I have to cook a meat burger for a meat eater cause if I don't I'd get fired! At least it's just a one day a week job! no matter what one does for a living there will be something unlikeable in the job I'm sure!

That depends on your reasons for being a veggie.

If you don't eat meat because you believe eating meat is "wrong" - then yes, that's a problem.

If you're a veggie based on taste preference etc. but don't hold
any convictions regarding the eating of meat - more power to ya.

That question is totally up to why you are a vegetarian.

My reason for being a vegetarian is that i am pro animal rights and what kind of a person that beleives in animal rights eats animals? it would be VERY unethical for me to manage a steakhouse. However, if you are a vegetarian for say health reasons, and you are not against the fact that the food came from an animal, but agaist the fact that its healthier not to eat it, than there is nothing wrong with managing a steakhouse

I don't really see a problem with it. Unless you feel like it isn't ok for you to work there. But scince the people there ordered the meat and stuff, you don't have to feel bad or anything because it is their choice to eat it, not you forcing them to eat it. But if you don't feel right in your concience about working there then don't. But if you feel fine then it is ok. The veggie police won't come and arrest you for working there.

I would say that since eating animal products is not illegal or immoral, it is not unethical to work where they are eaten. However, if you believe it is, then it is unethical for you because you are going against your principles. What you have to do is get your vegginess into prospective.

As long as you don't plan on being one of those ultra annoying veggie freaks that come over to someone's table and start spouting off about "How can you eat that" or "What kind of a person are you to eat that stuff"? !! Maybe you're not one of those 'political' vegetarians but I personally wouldn't have anything to do with something that stands for the opposite of what I believe in. That would be something like a member of M.A.D.D. working as a bartender! Or a member of P.E.T.A. working as a fur coat retailer! ("I don't wear the fur so it's ok") But what ever will pay the bills right?

Well, you need a job, and if you cant find a suitable one, then you do what you have to do. I would have a hard time being around it, but bills are bills. Is there another alternative? Is there any vegetarian restaurants in town that could use your talents? Perhaps in a nearby town? Good luck-you could do what I do, make a full time income on ebay....I love working from home, and earning money while still in my jammies!
