I need the best Lumpia reciepe. I had some back in the day, and life has just not been the same. I tried to make some using ground beef and wrapps, it was a crying shame. It was horrible. I need help! The kind I had seemed to only have meat in it, but what do I know.

Hey, believe me, i know what you mean, and from reading the current responses, there are none you are looking for. And as for Cheffy, he was not asking for a spelling lesson. Philippinos is acceptable and better than flips. My wife makes the best, simple lumpia in the world. Ground pork, carrots finely minced, as well as minced garlic, and onion. Salt, pepper, and get rolling. As far as rolling technique, look that up, as it varies, and does affect the taste.

We have the vegetable lumpia with a little meat in it or just all meat lumpia. You probably mean Lumpia Shanghai which is mostly meat. Here's my recipe:

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef
1/4 lb. shrimp meat
1 small can water chestnuts (chopped fine)
1 small can mushrooms (chopped fine)
1/4 small onion (diced fine)
2 tbsp. soy sauce
1 tbsp. finely chopped garlic (or a little less if you don't like garlic)
1 egg (beaten)
salt & pepper to taste
Filipino spring roll wrappers
cooking oil

Mix all the ingredients except the cooking oil. Mixing with your fingers is best. Spoon about 1 heaping tbsp. of the mixture into a lumpia wrapper. Make sure to get the very thin, almost transparent Philippine brand ones, not the thick eggroll wrappers. Roll them up according to the instructions on the box. Seal up the edge with water. Then cut each roll into 3 parts. Heat up the oil in a deep fryer. When it's hot enough, carefully drop the cut-up pieces and fry until slightly golden brown. Don't overcook. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately. Delicious! And thanks for your gracious compliments on Filipino food.

Authentic Lumpia

Ingredients:

2 lbs hamburger
1 cup bean sprouts
1 small head of cabbage (finely chopped)
1 onion (chopped)
1 grated carrot
4 garlic cloves (finely chopped)
1/4 cup soy sauce
lumpia skins

METHOD:

Mix all well in a large bowl. You can find lumpia wrappers from an oriental store, These work best
(about the size of a dinner plate and round) allow mix to sit for a while. Put a small amount of mixture into middle of wrapper and roll up and fold in the edges. Wet down with a little water. fry until golden brown, serve with sweet and sour , or some crushed garlic with vinegar.

This came from a friend who got it from her Filipino DIL! It's great, and hope it works for you!

LUMPIA (EGG ROLLS)

1 chicken breast cooked
8 oz. cooked pork
1 cup finely diced celery
8 oz. cooked shrimp
1/2 cup chopped green onions
4 oz. fresh bean sprouts
2 tsp. salt
8 oz. cabbage
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
4 oz. green beans
2 tbsp. light soy sauce
2 tbsp. peanut oil
1 packet egg roll wrappers
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

Bone skin and dice chicken breast. Dice pork finely. Roughly chop shrimp.
Wash bean sprouts and drain. Pinch off straggly brown tails and chop roughly.
Shred cabbage finely, string beans and cut into very thin diagonal slices.

Heat oil and fry garlic over low heat for one minute, then add chicken, pork, and shrimp and stir fry one minute before adding beans. Stir fry for two minutes, then add sprouts, cabbage, celery, and onions. Toss and cook until tender but still crunchy.
Add seasoning, mix well, then drain away excess moisture.

For fried Lumpia, put filling on egg roll wrapper and roll up, moistening tip to seal. Fry in deep oil heated to 375 for two minutes or until golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper and serve with favorite sauce. Enjoy!
