for the past week, my husband has been complaining that he didn't feel good, and kept saying it was in his chest. He has had a very minor cough with it as well. This morning while brushing his teeth, he discovered his throat was bleeding! (and he has had his tonsils out, so we at least know its not that)

What could this illness be and how do I treat it?
(We have no insurance, so just going to the doctor is not an option)

p.s. His chest wasn't in pain, he just said he felt like it was in his chest, rather than a head cold

and it's not that we won't go to the doctor, it's that we hav e40.00 between us and can't afford to go.

PLEASE DON'T BE MEAN, OR RUDE IN YOUR ANSWER!

Of course i don't want him to die, and will take him to the ER if we have to, but since we don't have insurance, we are seeking other options first. Maybe someone has had this before and might know what it is and how to treat it

He is 27, very fit, very healthy, no med history. He has not had a fever, he has mentioned feeling weaker (although he also didn't eat that day), no chills, no shortness of breath and it does not hurt him to breathe or cough.

Let me give my thinking about your husband's illness; He sick for around one week with chief complaints;chest congestion, mild cough, sorthraot or some bleeding or just redness from his throat. No mentions;high fever, chills, chest pain or shortness of breath and I pres-um he is a younger man,no histry of chronic lung disease, diabetic ,heart disease or htn.Base above data; I think he has an acute respiratory disease and infection in nature,no fever no chills no chest pain no short of breath and seen not very sick.He has a very common type of virus of uri with pharyngitis or bronchitis. Not pulmonary tb because it is chronic disease not developed in one week.My suggestion is ;,you just go to buy otc medicines;Tylenol tab,Robitussin cough syp and give him a lot of fluid and close monitor him,if developed high fever chest pain and cough up a lot of blood then go to er.Good luck.

I am sorry but a Doctor is a must, you can go to an ER and they cannot refuse treatment, most hospitals have a charity care program where you pay none of the bill or very little in monthly installments, I ask you will it cost more to lose him and his monetary support.

Does he smoke and drink a lot, esophageal varices cause bleeding in the throat but you can bleed to death, as well as a GI bleed, not to mention his cough, he may be coughing up blood and that is serious as well.

The fact that he says he does not feel well is a very strong indicator that this forum cannot help him.

Oh my goodness! That sounds really bad. Is he physically abusive as well, if he is, honey, you need to get out NOW! If you have nowhere to go, then contact a shelter for battered women. If he is not physically abusive, then I would still reccommend that you get out soon, because emotional abuse can be even worse that physical in a sense of your self worth....and has a long lasting affect on a person, but at least it is not as urgent. You can bide your time and plan ahead. either way, you really need to seek counseling for yourself, and if he is willing, for him too. I understand eight years is a long time, but sometimes you have to learn to give up and let go. Its very admirable that you don't wanna give up, but it takes two to make a relationship work, and if he is unwilling to do his part, then no matter how hard you try, its not gonna work. You cant make a person change. They have to want to change themself. The old saying, "you never know what you got 'til its gone," is soo true! If he feels threatened that he might lose you, then he might change, but whether he does it for good, or temporarily is something that you need to consider if you leave and think about going back. You have been with him for eight years and probably know him better than anyone else, so you will need to make that decision when that time comes, but keep in mind the question of...would you really wanna go back to that? Only you know how far he is willing to go and if he really loves you.

I don't understand the bleeding throat thing. Maybe a bloody nose that was draining downward. Any how any kind of chest pain could be an emergency. He may be having a heart attack. Is he worth more to you than a few dollars for a doctors' visit? If not, let him sit there and die.

The only other thing that I can think of off hand that would cause bleeding in the throat might be cancer. If he was coughing up frothy, bloody sputum, then that would be pulmonary edema and that can kill too. He needs to see a doctor.

you should check to see if he is running a fever and if so look to see if he has any white on the back of the throat or tongue if so it could be strep and can be treated with antibiotic a flash light and can look back there to see if he has any cuts like if you eat hard things like chips it could have cut back there.but I would start by taking his temp that will tell you if he is ill.Even if you don't have insurance you can take him to the ER they can help you and you can get on a payment plan its better to be safe then sorry good luck

You really need some kind of medical help. It could be anything from a scratchy throat to tuberculosis. He needs an x-ray. What do you guys do when you get sick? Is there a free clinic nearby?

It could be a number of things. There should be a health clinic that coist nothing to go to. You will wait forever but its better then being sick. It shoulds like the blood could be from brushing his teeth.

chest discomfort, cough, hemoptasis!!! There are numerous things that could be going on....pnuemonia, strep infection, tuberculosis, even atypical heart attack. I take it you don't care if he lives or dies, but frankly, I would not hesitate to take him to the nearest emergency room, or you may be collecting on his life insurance soon.

He could have a very serious illness such as TB. No one here can diagnose his problem. Go to a clinic and get help.

I would somehow make it an option. Coughing blood is serious and he should be evaluated by a professional.
