Often I see about updates of various softwares. Will this make the past versions useless? I need clarification.

Each license is different.

Some CDs have very involved licenses checking systems. They report the license key and your hardware configuration back to the software owner. If the key has already been used on a different machine the program may shut down and not run.

Others may allow you to run it on several machines but may have a time limit built in.

Still others may only provide updates to the first machine for a limited time.

Read your license to see what you bought.

That depends on the kind of license u get along with that. There are different kind of licences like life long, for a period of time like 1 year etc. So, that depends on the type of licence u get for a software.

You can use them as long as you want. But, the newer versions are always better. Make full use of your current and uprgrade when it is necessary.

Consider using OpenOffice.org,a free office suite of applications, from www.openoffice.org

You may need the helps of the GetRight , the download manager, from www.getright.com to resume and accelerate your download of OpenOffice.org because its installation file size is large.
