The corporate version, costs; but the personal ones is free. You get more with the corporate one, the free one is good enough for the home user.

They there.

AVG has two versions. Free and corporate. You need to bye the corporate version but the free version is used like advertisement. U only have some features available but to get all features you need to upgrade to the expensive version.

They do ask for donations but the advertisement bit works the best. Its like a shop giving free bananas. The people will hear about the shop and will go there. But they would also like other products from the shop so they will bey the other products but still get the free bananas. To use this as example.

There is no advertising or spyware in AVG. (They even make their anti-spyware software free to use as well).

The free versions of AVG Anti-virus and AVG Anti-Spyware are made available for personal use, so that the AVG product line will become well known and popular. Businesses then buy the commercial version for their own commercial use.

The end result is that home users benefit from very good free security tools, and AVG benefit from the free advertising, which brings businesses along to buy the commercial versions.

So there's no cons, no hidden tricks. Everybody wins.

No such thing as a free lunch. Advertising and spyware are the two biggest reasons why this is not free

don't know why its free but it was recommended to me years ago by a computer "geek" and has caused no problems at all so why not take advantage of something free...I also have Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy plus other things....go for it and Good Computering to you!

It's free because it's a very poor AV program.
