Hey most Digital multimeters(DVVMS) these days have a facility to check the continuity of the circuit. you can use that .

all you need to do is select the buzzer option (generally it is placed right abouve or below the diode symbol) using the selection dial.

when ever there is a ashort circuit the buzzer sounds implying the connection continuity is there, if th ebuzzer doesnot sound then there is a break in the circuit.

Continuity can be checked using the resistance measurement part of the multimeter. Depending on the circuit, you may need to select the appropriate range on the resistance scale. Continuity of many motors etc. can be checked using the ohms range.

using the buzzer symbol in the multi meter(digital)..the buzzer goes on for a value of resistance lesser than 100 ohm..
