My husband and I still joke, "who let us leave the hospital with a baby?" It makes no sense that you need a license to FISH for goodness sake, but anyone can take home a child and do whatever they want to the poor kid.

No i dont believe a parent should need a license to have a baby. Women have been raising children for years without guidance from a "license" and will continue to do so.
Of course i do know that we live in a time of change. Parents have so much stress during the technology era. They work harder, are under more stress to live in a world that has gone totally bonkerz so naturally its not as straight forward as it used to be.
We also have drug addicts, alcoholics, abusers and whatnot. Of course these kind of people would never need a license. They would just have the children ripped off them if they were reported.
I do believe though that parents these days DO need help. Being a parent is not an instinct. It is something that is learnt with every single child you have to get you the experience tools needed.
Rather than a license parents should go to "parenting classes" and learn basic childcare techniques. Not just the newborn stuff you see at most centres, but also classes for older kids - and it should be mandatory.

Oh my God change your name to Stalin and enslave a nation why don't you!
I have heard it all now...excuse me but is this1984? eh no I don't think so last time I looked it was the 21st century. Don't be so presumptuous to condemn the average human being simply because they do not come from a middle/upper class background.
I agree that more Sex Educ needs to be introduced and either way condom's should be handed out in class also to teenagers. You can't stop people having sex regardless of their age! The diseases that go with unprotected sex are the biggest problem along with birth defects due to drug abuse.
Children are born into societies regardless of class unpredicted and always will be...
Its a Question of introducing better education for all people from all classes and it should be free. The problem is not the people but the Govt and legislation to implement the structures needed for children to grow up with a chance to have decent lives.
We as Tax payers Know only too well that the rich get off Scot free on Tax and have it easy. Unlike the average Joe who has to pay through the nose to supplement single mothers etc.
This does not effect the rich and we all know that the Govt is to blame for this as they should be paying more tax on the condition of there wealth.
Next you will be suggesting we should all be tattooed with identity code bars and segregated into communities based on wealth and educ.
Not that it isn't happening. But come on have you ever been to an impoverished suburb and seen how run down these areas are and what lack of resources are available to them!
You need to if anything try to help sort the problem not make it worse...
if anything get informed, all children deserve a chance at a better life no matter what. And another Q, what if you had to get a license(you spelt it wrong by the way!) and had already given birth, does that mean regardless of being the child's mother the child could be taken from you!
Its not a bloodie TV your giving birth too FFS...

Yeah, I had a long conversation with a friend about that a while back. I think people should have to pass a test on the basics of raising children. If they don't pass, then they would have to take some classes and retake the test. I don't know how effective this kind of thing would be, because people can say one thing on a test and do another, but at least they would know what they should be doing.
There wouldn't be any question on who is genetically good enough, because diversity is good for the gene pool and people pick who they want to have kids with and that slowly but surely improves the species. I'm not saying that stupid people never have kids. I am saying that i don't think the government should ever have a hand in who is and isn't good enough to have kids, unless it comes to neglecting or hurting the child/children.

I have just read yet another story of a couple that that neglected their child and he died of malnutrition. Sick people like this that murder their own children and other people struggle to have kids. If only there was a way (a bit sci-fi but use your imagination) that you could do a reliable personality test to see if you had abusive / murderous tendencies and then if scored for example above 7 out of 10 then you get an injection so you can't have kids.
Actually - now that I think about it, if we could actually do these tests it would solve alot of problems regarding crime.
Or maybe "Parenting School" or something like that

Unfortunately you don't need a license to have sex, and it seems to me that most of the babies born are unplanned. So it's either abortion on demand by the state or lots of institutions opening.
It's not workable. But what should be workable is that every parent in the country should be forced to go to parenting classes. And expectations outlined. And rules given - do not swear in front of your child, 6 years old do not watch 18 movies, etc etc

Some. - like smack heads and other drug abusers/alcoholics etc.
Oh and those who have more than two children while on benifits - and have no intention of coming off it in the near future.
Probably more but i am not god and can't be bothered to go into it today.

Hell yes!!
i work in a temporary accommodation, mostly with young people, the results of bad parenting can range from mild to horrific.
You wouldn't believe the damage an indifferent parent can cause!
Hug your child today! Tell them how bright, beautiful and special they are to you!

What do you do in the event of a miscalculation? Do you have to provide the written appology from Durex in court before they bang you up for being banged up?
