A rose protects its beauty with its thorns, a woman protects hers with the hijaab!! According to Islam a women was created from a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on, not from his head to be superior over but from his side to be equal, under the arm to be protected.

This is the mind of a muslim woman-

What do you see when you look at me?
Do you see someone limited, or someone free
All some people can do is just look and stare
Simply because they can't see my hair
Others think I am controlled and uneducated
They think that I am limited and un-liberated
They are so thankful that they are not me
Because they would like to remain 'free'

Well free isn't exactly the word I would've used
Describing women who are cheated on and abused
They think that I do not have opinions or voice
They think that being hooded isn't my choice
They think that the hood makes me look caged
That my husband or dad are totally outraged
All they can do is look at me in fear
And in my eye there is a tear

Not because I have been stared at or made fun of
But because people are ignoring the One up above
On the day of judgment they will be the fools
Because they were too ashamed to play by their own rules.

There might be a few rights that men might have more than women, but at the same time women would have some rights more than men. So its balanced. The man who is the best in the eyes of his wife, is the best in front of Allah. Well basically men and women are EQUAL.

And just to conclude the prophet Muhammed (*pbuh said the doors of paradise lies in the feet of your mother and once when the companion of the prophet asked who must he love, then the prophet said YOUR MOTHER, the companion then asked who then, the prophet replied YOUR MOTHER, the companion asked who then, the reply was YOUR MOTHER and teh companion asked for the fourth time and the prophet muhamemd (pbuh) said your father. Women in matter of dignity and love comes first whereas men come first when it comes to earning money. So teh rights are balanced.

Praise be to Allah, the best of creators.

actually I dont know whether to laugh or cry when i look at how MUCH Islam is misinterpreted. I truly truly agree with barbara.
Almost all the people above think that women being opressed by being beaten and uneducated, is because of islam. but how many times should a muslim tell you that IT IS NOT ISLAMIC TEACHINGS BUT THEIR CULTURE! those people are uneducated and they oppress women. even we muslims hate that.

According to islam, women can be educated. they also need not be beaten by their husbands, if they are they can file divorce.
and you dont see men wearing hijab a woman's body can attract more attention than a man's.
pickme says that we blame the whole thing on the women when they are abused. thats wrong because men are punished if they do. islam only points out that covering is a protection for women.
But I do agree much of the misconceptions in islam are because some muslims just dont practice islam correctly. The torture those women in Afghanistan are put through...and to make matters worse they blame it on islam whereas it is all about culture. I am a sri lankan and islam is practised beautifully here.
To all non muslims out there: we are just like you, we are not opressed. and when the car crashes dont blame the car, blame the driver...

Explain female circumcision then. And how women were executed for wearing the hijab in some countries. Those same countries where widows starved because they weren't allowed to work. Explain honour killings. Where women die because they cannot allow a male doctor to examine them.
We can all read and I have read many books written by women from these countries. Maybe you haven't - why not try looking at a few and seeing just how awful being a woman can be in a Muslim state.
By the way, I am not anti-Muslim. I am against the maltreatment of people and I don't believe that true, devoted Muslims would do things like that.
I forgot to add - I read a letter to a newspaper written by a young girl in which she pleaded that schools do not allow their pupils to wear the hijab, as her fther and brothers would force her to wear it. She did not regard it as an honour.
And be sensible, would wearing a tent over your head be comfortable - no matter how much you would try to convince yourself. Go on, try it. Wear the hijab for a month and see if you think it is such a good thing.

Jazaak Allah!...’’The man who is the best in the eyes of his wife, is the best in front of Allah’’…wow I had no idea!!..being a muslim women myself I had no idea ..that poetry was beautiful..Again it’s the misconception what the non believers and the west holds against islam..to them islam is Afghanistan..and middle east..are they aware that some of the rapes and killings are done by their own army personals…how righteous is that..now should I be the first to start generalizing?..by the way, I havenot heard any womn being executed in middle east yet!!...And when the west talks about Muslim women being beaten up.i actually feel the love they hold for us..thank you..but why not protect your women first?? I mean the abuse nearly each and every one of your women have to go throw even before they hit 30..is just amazing..!! from beating and bashing to sexual exploitation. Even your police seems to be sick of it..
Muslim women have more rights in islam then ANY OTHER WOMEN in the world…Muslim women are well protected in islam . they have the upmost respect given to them BY GOD...if u don’t believe me study ISLAM..and the “hood” they choose to cover them selves up is …because they are truly beautiful for any man to look at them..they are bashful creatures who believe that their beauty is only to be sseen and enjoyed by their husbands…that is another reason why you may find muslim women do not marry 3 4 5 times..and do not have affairs..like the modern women of the west…did I mention I am a muslim woman and i love to swim…I go to a all lady’s pool n I wear what I want..
Every guy nomatter which religion wants a wife who is sincere to him with her hands...her eyes...her mouth..her soul..who does not show her flesh to other men so they could enjoy it too..and would not want his wife looking at other guys...its ONLY NATural...THESE QUALITIES..are present in a muslim woman who veils herself..THAT is why we choose to "HOOD" ourselves!..peace

P.s Lawrance...lol what are u on about? are u even a muslim or pretending to be one?..

Islam does not give best of right s to women, oh sure the government does, but the husbands are aggressive, and abusive to thier wives. They are kept down below the mans feet, and hidden away behind ridiculous clothing that they find terribly uncomfortable in the heat, because they dont have freedom.
The husbands all ALL have extra marital affairs anyway. this is islam today.

The plight of women world wide leaves much to be desired. That includes the West and in Christianity. However, if you are attempting to make the case that women under Islam are better off, and that Islam is the answer for women, you need to pull your head out of your Koran for about five minutes, just long enough to put together a clear (and independent thought). This is a joke.

God (whoever or whatever he is to you) help us when Islam demographically takes over the West. A world dominated by Islam will make Christian domination look like the "good old days".(and thats pretty hard to do)

I am a Muslim woman and I can truly say that I have been treated better by Muslim men than any other.

When I was asked to wear the hijab to see if I could "hack it" by my fiance at the time, it felt like coming home, even thought I was not even Muslim yet. I am not restricted as a western woman. I love the swish of my skirts and the flow of fabric around me when I walk. After a lifetime in slacks, it feels so feminine! . But then I have never been one for
exposing flesh even when I was young and firm!

My Catholic husband abandoned me with two young girls whereas the Muslim men I have known have all been good solid family men. The few I have met with marriage in mind have been wonderful gentlemen and I have been treated like a queen. And there is the wonderful thing, most of them do not care about age so much, it is mindset that has counted to them. I would NEVER think all Catholic men are like my irresponsible ex, I just chose poorly.

However,my friend, as you know, Islam is not practiced in the same fashion in every country. What those of the west do not realize is that, Islam is a religion. Muslims are from all sorts of cultures and do not all practice Islam in the same way. Many of the horrors one sees are uneducated or tribal things. The way women are treated is tribal more than Islamic.

What people also fail to understand is that Saudi Arabia is one thing. The regime of KSA is repressive to women in the extreme. I know no Muslim men who approve of this at all and have great disdain for such things. They are embarrassed at the Arabic way with women and tired of having to defend their ways with their wives. Not all are so repressive.

But your head is in the sand, my friend. Women are treated terribly in some places. However, the press in America will grab any old scene of a Taliban beating a woman with a stick and show it as life in modern Tehran and no one in the U. S. is going to know the difference. Yet we all know women in Tehran are very savvy modern people.

But please, open your eyes. There is still terrible oppression of women in Islam in Afghanistan and in the African countries. It is NOT Islam but cultural tradition that is the excuse used but somehow few Westerners will buy that. It is as if, there was one floozy in America and all Muslims thought every righteous American woman was like that. The same misconceptions.

totally...i wear hijaab and it couldn't have been a better choice for me. Anything that happens to Muslim women in the middle east doesn't happen in the name of Islam, it happens cultural like honour killings...so don't mistake this for representing Islam. If you don't know...don't make a judgement.

Moses wrote about Eve coming from Adams rib in 1500 BC. So this is not according to Islam origionally. By the way Moses was a Jew like all the prophets after Jacob. What muslim rights do women have? Can a man beat his wife and not get jailed for it a muslim country?

I think we believe you should have more freedom. When in Egypt I speak to the local girls and they would like to go to work but are not allowed to by their fathers. In most muslim countries the men seem to be on the streets playing games and enjoying themselves and the women are kept hidden. We enjoy being able to do as we like and not having to cover up as if we should be kept hidden. I had an Egyptian boyfriend who adored his mum but still she stayed in the house all the time. I just feel there is a great big world out there and we should all be allowed to do what we want. Having said that, if you are truly happy as you are then that is good too.

Why do Muslim women have to use a separate entrance to the Mosque for Friday prayers?
Why are there no women Immans?
Why are there no women leaders of Muslim countries.
Shall I go on or will you convert to Christianity who amongst other religions are embracing modern views and change
