Also, clean any area that she marked with an enzyme cleaner, maybe while she is at the vet getting fixed. Walmart sells per urine odor and stain remover. It works really well, but you have to leave it wet for several hours to make sure the odor is completely gone. You want to make sure that it is gone, or she will go back there.

I'd move her to the bathroom with all her stuff until after the surgery. Then you won't need to monitor her as much and it will be easier to clean up. You need to clean up all the places she has marked by using an enzymatic cleaner such as Natures Miracle or Simple Solution, following the instructions on the container. (These are safe for cats and do not smell bad). Never use ammonia (smells too much like urine, which also contains ammonia). By using the enzymatic cleaner, the stain is destroyed and the cat can't smell it. Even if we can't smell it, the cat can if any of it is left. If the cat smells it, she will think this is the place to use.

Cats hate the scent of citronella - I bought a spray with a citronella scent from my vet which I sprayed lightly around my lounge (this was my cat's favourite place to urinate) for a few weeks. I wasn't fussed on the smell of the stuff either but it was much better than cat urine. Whilst I was using the spray, my cat didn't urinate once. After I stopped using it he did spray a couple of times so after that I actually started taking to spraying the cat directly - he soon learned not to do it on my lounge anymore!

I wouldn't count on your cat's current habits magically breaking after she has been spayed - mine still continued with the lounge chair routine until I bought the spray... but you never know - you might be lucky!

I sure am glad you're getting her neutered soon. That will solve a lot of problems for you.

Meanwhile, for your sanity, you can try what I did when I got my first kittens. I kept them in the bathroom. I put a litter box in there for them, fed them in there and everything. I put their toys in there... It gave them lots of room to run around and yet was easy to keep them out of most stuff, and what they could mess up was also easy to clean.

My husband's mother used to "rescue" lots of dogs and cats. She had one cat that lived in the bathroom. Others she put in dog crates to give them more room to stretch. Maybe you can borrow a large dog crate from a friend.... like 3' x 4' size...

I hope this helps you.

There is a way to stop this take a tin can cut 2 leg holes and a hole just big enough for her tail. This solves two problems. She can't spray your bed and can't get a high hard one when your not around. This is a joke. just in case you were thinking about using that can.
