I've never had any problems sleeping in deep forest while camping during the day or night. As far as oxygen content of the air it probably is higher even at night than your bedroom at home. I know it's a lot fresher and makes you feel better. Personally I think not sleeping under trees night or day is a lot of bull.

Under The Neem Tree

I think you have heard it wrong, it during night time. Its not only the neem tree but any green plant, under which you shouldn't sleep at night.

During day time trees perform photosynthesis and give out oxygen. So at that time its good if you sleep under them, you'll inhale a good amount of oxygen. During day time also they do respire( i.e, inhale oxygen) but its at a very small scale.
By night, they stop photosynthesis, since there is no light and it starts to respire more. All its products that were formed in daytime during photosynthesis, are used up in respiration at night.

Since the tree takes the oxygen from its surrounding area, the oxygen level in that region is low at night. And hence it is recommended not to sleep under a (neem) tree.

Neems are similar to any other tree.

Sometimes we get the information all wrong, and then get confused!
ALL tress, including the Neem tree, produce oxygen during the day, and carbon di oxide at night.
So, where and when do you want to sleep, Friend??
do you want to inhale fresh, life-giving oxygen?
Lie under a Neem tree [but don't tell lies!!] during the day.

During our studies in6th STD (1966) the text book specially mentioned not to sleep under tree in night because they exhale Co2in night except Neem which exhale O2 in night. Now the answers posted need to be reviwed to overcome confusions.

as long as the weather is fine, there is some small hazard that you will get bugs on you or wake up with a leaf on your nose... but that is about it... If it is not fine weather you may be hit by lightning. P.S. The people above telling you that trees only produce oxygen are mistaken. During the *day* when sunshine is on trees, they use up carbon dioxide and make sugar... during the night they burn that sugar, using oxygen, just like every other living thing burning fuel... It is not a drastic enough thing though to short you of air! lol

No. It is not during daytime. It's during night. Moreover it takes carbon dioxide & exhales oxygen in the ratio 2:13.
