i have a friend going to hong kong next month and i am wondering what is a good gift to have her bring back for me

Its considered shopping heaven cuz theres lots of stores and fakes and cut-lables there for a cheap price I just left around 5 days ago, they dont have much tax and your gonna ♥ their food.

You will see Muslim women with head scarf from time to time. You will not be looked at as "weird". Hong Kong has a fairly large Pakistani population. If that's important to you, HK has also some Halal places. Few Chinese halal though. I just know one Chinese halal in Kowloon City.

The food. The varieties are staggering. It will take months just to sample the basic cuisines of the world and the many many chinese specialties not found in other places.
But since you are looking for a gift, I would suggest eletronic gadgets or cloths. So think of cell phones, MP3, I-Pod, digital whatever, silk blouses, polo shirts, jeans....

Well, the electronic is really cheap in hk, it might be too difficult for your friend to bring them back to US...
I'd suggest your friend to buy some chinese handicrafts.
There is a stunning variety of handicrafts available in HK and i'm sure that your friend won't believe her eyes when she see the prices.

erm... the electronic are alot cheaper here because of the low tax....
you can also buy tons of cheap clothes here in at the markets in 'mong kok'.

hongkong is known as one of the best shopping places in the world where merchandises are relatively cheap
it is also one of the special administrative regions in China and was a colony of Britain... it was only recently that china regained hongkong
