What kind of business and what kind of license?

Some business licenses never need to be renewed. Some licenses need to be renewed to 1) make sure you get required training 2) see if you're still in business 3) get revenue for the state or municipality.

Because it's the law! Know the laws of your country, state, city, etc. as to whether you need a license, how much it costs, and how often it needs to be renewed.
