Jesus said the "kingdom" was "at hand". This means that it was to soon be established.
Jesus also said, "And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power." (Mark 9:1, Matthew 16:8, Luke 9:27)
If we are still waiting for the kingdom to come, then there are some who were alive with Jesus that are still alive now! Where are these 2000 year old people?
The kingdom is here! The kingdom is the church. There are many passages that use the words "church" and "kingdom" interchangably. This kingdom came with power (Acts 2)!
Also, all verses in the New Testament that talk about the kingdom use future tense before the church was established in Acts 2. After Acts 2, the kingdom is spoken of in present tense.
Colossians 1:13 says, "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:" How can we have been translated into something that did not yet exist?
Finally, Christ is currently a king! A king must have a kingdom! Christ's kingdom has been established! Christ is the head of the church, his kingdom (Eph. 1:22-23).

Great question! The answer to that is found in Revelation 2 + 3 when the 7 churches are discussed for their strengths and weaknesses. Today is the Laodocean church age where many churchs and of course many people in them are lukewarm - not willing to take a stand for what they believe in (Jesus). And many preachers are candy preachers who preach the love of God, without the warnings of God. Heaven without Hell. Basically, the love without the dicipline. The Word of God is a bittersweet message - both the bitter truth that warns and the sweet that gives us hope needs to be preached. We need the WHOLE message, not only the parts that make us feel warm and fuzzy. We need the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God!! And all of God's people said "AMEN"!!!!!! Thank God for the bold and loving preachers and people of today.

Shouldn't this section be religion vs spirituality.
What Church are you talking about, soooo many different denominations, so if you are thinking for yourself a little you may have heard this with out "church's" help. Nonetheless .....
Yes a place of worship and congregation should overflow with this idea as it is not just a doctrine but has scriptual basis. Depends on if your worship concentrates upon "learning" what a preacher has to preach, or listening to encouraging scriptures with personal meaning.
I love my non-denominational church. I have never been as happy as I could ever feel about a group of people, and the first group of people who think just like I do, pointed above. ( and acceptingly non-judgemental) Become closer to Him yourself and enjoy others on the same individual journey while taking their experience to heart you make your journey a little easier. But by listening to specific religious rules can get you following blindly down a sidetrack path. Open yourself up to Him and you will discover where you should be. I finally did and this is great!

There are some 20,000 "Christian" denominations in the United States alone. Beliefs range from strict fundamentalist interpretations all the way to some who believe that Jesus was a space alien. I would suggest reading the entire Bible carefully. If you have the time and motivation, I would suggest learning to read Greek (it's not as hard as you think). Take the time to look things up, as the differences from one sect to the next often rely on subtle differences in interpretations of individual scriptures. Most of all, I would suggest NOT reading commentary Bibles or other books that tell you what to think about the scriptures. If you take the time to learn as much as you can about what you're reading, you don't need those. Form your own opinion, then discuss it with other people who seem to know what they're talking about. After all, if you seek Him....

It seems like that message is getting lost these days. Praise the Lord there are a few left in the world.
Those concerned about this should read in Revelation Jesus' letters to the churches. We need to return to our first love.

I think perhaps that's what they are trying to do..however I believe they then put "flavouring" in amongst that message by adding things that Jesus didn't teach and they compromise the real message of Christ then. That is the way satan works and I believe that is why the bible says that the way is narrow and not many find it..not many christians find that way either..they think they have found it, but then are so adamant that these 'flavourings' that are inserted in amongt the message are true when in fact they are satans counterfeits.
