raw feeding, as in raw meat, introduces your dog to parasites. While they do eat meat in the wild, it's always fresh.. so this should be a must if you're seriously going to do it. As long as you're on a worm/ heartworm pill once a month (advantix), you will probably be ok. you have to remember that your dog trusts you and will eat things that he might not in the wild. If meat has begun to spoil, he may eat it just because you gave it to him, yet spoiled food is one of the primary causes of sickness in pets. just FYI... here are a few other foods really bad for dogs.
- Alcoholic beverages
- Avocado
- Chocolate (all forms)
- Coffee (all forms)
- Fatty foods
- Macadamia nuts
- Moldy or spoiled foods
- Onions, onion powder
- Raisins and grapes
- Salt
- Yeast dough
- Garlic
- Products sweetened with xylitol

I suggest you go to the DOL (Danes On Line) site.It has a section totally devoted to raw feeding of Danes and some very knowledgable people on the subject that can help you get started and answer all of your quaestions.
You need to make sure the diet is properly balanced. You also will need to feed a variety of meats including organ meats and bones or bone meal.
I recommend staying away from general raw feeding sites since Danes being a giant breed have specific nutritional needs that other sized dogs don't.
Also raw feeding does NOT cause worms. It is a very healthy, natural way to feed dogs and if done correctly it will be wonderful for your Dane.

Here's another website on raw feeding. You can e-mail the woman that runs the site there and ask specifics. I see there are other great sites you have already been referred to as well. The site I will refer you to gives description of how to do it yourself and how to balance the diet.

I had all three of my dogs (not danes, but medium-large sized dogs) on this diet for four mos and it was great. I lack freezer space now though, and had to grind the raw meaty bones which was a lot of work for three dogs.
Didn't have any problems with them at all and I knew exactly what they were eating.
