Assuming that my husband and our pets are safe, I would save my antique iron bed (I've had it since I was 7), my file folder with all of our important documents (deed, marriage license, etc.), and our emergency kit we have stashed under the bed (that might come in handy!)
And if by "posessions" you meant living things included, then I would definitely save my husband, my cat, Grace, and his dog, Prudie.

Have you realized how serious your question is? What if your house is in the midst of an earthquake? Or is caught by a cyclone? Or is nearby a factory from which a dangerous gas has leaked? Have you forgotten the events of Bhopal, Latur, Bhuj or Orissa? Honestly, a disaster can strike anywhere, any time. How many of us are prepared for it? Instead of just thinking of what to save at the time of the crisis, please plan ahead - be prepared for it. There's few simple thinks you can do to be prepared. Firstly identify an escape route from your house. Make sure that each and every member of your family understand it. Make multiple copies and keep copies of important documents like wills, property papers, bank accounts, savings instruments etc., in another place, say in the bank vault or at your office. For each family member keep a packed bag handy. Have the bare essential items packed - like medicines that are being taken regularly, two sets of clothes (appropraite for the season), list of contacts, etc. etc. Keep a good powerful torch and a transistor radio (to listen to important annoucement) handy. Learn and understand safety measures like "duck and cover" for earthquakes. Periodically hold mock drills for all the family members. Please be prepared beforehand. You may be able to save yourself and others.

First thing to be saved are the human lives and the lives of the cattle, valuable belongings that can be retrieved quickly and take further measures that ensure that the fire does not spread other houses and is contained as quickly as possible.

If hubby is here...( a trucker home sometimes) he would be first. My cat and pictures. Which would lead to myself. If I couldn't make it out alive those are the 3 items which I would not killed or destroyed. I couldn't care less about jewels but hubby and the pictures that accumulated would be gone forever.

One thing I would not take is my pillow. Most people say that because there appears to be a connection to a pillow...comfort, security to name a few. However, THEY ARE FILLED with parasites, dustmites...shall I go on?
My dog...is the first thing I can think of. The rest is unimportant!

Our cats... er does that count as the three possessions, since there are three of them, or as one "group"? I'll just count them as "one."
Photo albums.
A painting left to me by my grandmother.
Fortunately, we've got a fire-proof safe, so that would save a few other small items.

My 24 box-sets, my computer, and my dog. Any other humans in the house can get themselves out and the cats can burn.
