I'm Catholic, boyfriend is Non Denom. We brought my niece up to live with us in January. She was Catholic as well. A very devoted one, I thought. All of a sudden, she went to a Christian bible study session one night and two days later she calls herself a Christian. I know technically we are all Christian - Christ like - but I've been reading up on the particular church she's been going to and they don't promote the things she's been doing. I don't think any religion does. She's been lying a lot, she's been rude and disrespecting her mother. She left our house one day to go with a lady from that church who had to 'run something by her' and she hasn't been back. No word, no notes or anything. We called this lady from the church and left a message last night. She got the message but has refused to call back. We contacted the pastor of the church. We e-mailed him. He hasn't responded either. Don't know what to do. Just trying to make sure she's ok. What do y'all think?

Unfortunately you have to let things go & depending on her age get in contact with social services
1 other thing, pray for her. Catholic or not doesn't matter we all need someone to pray for us.

There's no way to be certain--so don't take what I say and jump to concclusions. But your niece is displaying behaviors consistant with being recruited into a cult. And the behavior of the pastor, etc. is also consistant with that. Do not assume because the church is a recognized denomination that it is not a cult, for all practical purposes--there are a lot of these around these days.
Since she is Catholic, I suggest you talk to a priest and, if possible a psychologist who is also a practicing Catholic. If I'm correct, this is probably more than you can handle alone.

How do you know that the woman got the message? What type of Church is it? Can you go to the church and inquire about the woman and your niece? How old is your niece and who has custody if she's a minor? Basically, find out about the woman and call the police. She is either a runaway or she has been kidnapped. Either way, don't waste time on the internet, call the authorities. Good luck and God bless!! I will pray for your family.

How old is she? I'd call the police NOW.
Also Catholics are Christian. Technically we are not all Christians. A Christian is a person who has accepted Jesus' gift of atonement for your sins, and tries to live a Christ-like life. Those people should at least respond to your calls and let you know what's going on. Call the police.

I could be mistaken, but it appears from your description that you have every reason to be concerned about her safety.
I'd call the police right away. The members of this "Church" may be more forthcoming with answers if the police are asking the questions. If the police are able to find her, they can encourage her (e.g., by dialing you and handing the phone to her) to at least give an explanation.

Um, why does Christian or Catholic play a part in this.
If this really happened and it's not just something to "get the Christians going", my question for you is why are you on here asking what to do instead of consulting with the police?

well depending on her age CALL THE FREAKIN POLICE, and that definately sounds more like a cult than an actual church. Unless you want to see her on the news under a white sheet and wearing nikes along with 20 other people, it might be a good idea to intervene here. Keep cool-aid away from her

I guess you should go to the POLICE RIGHT NOW. I mean NOW. Deal 911 already and report about that church. I think that church is a cult.

Not everybody who claims to be a christian is. How old is your niece? I would go down to the church & demand to know where she is. You may need to contact the police & let them know she's missing/runaway.
