Instead of doing my taxes myself, for my first time I went to an H&R Block office. I was truly grateful for the assistance the tax preparer gave me. She was extremely helpful, and even held the door open for me as I left the office. All that friendliness, and I didn't tip her. My barber isn't even that nice and I tip him!

No, I don't tip my tax preparer. Don't feel guilty about not tipping no matter how helpful she was. How much did they take out of your return? Consider that her tip.

No you don't, it is improper and tacky. An accountant/tax preparer is not someone in the "service industry". They are professionals and giving a tip is unwarranted (even though I understand you appreciate her help) and could quit possibly offend and insult her. It is definitely not appropriate to tip your tax preparer. I think it is very sweet that you want to express your gratitude. However, I would suggest sending a nice flower arrangement or gift basket filled with goodies instead of leaving a cash tip. This type of thoughtfulness actually means much more than cash to a lot of people.

No. They may or may not "get paid enough" depending on where they work, but accepting a tip can be seen as a conflict of interest and cost them their job. If you want to do something for your preparer, go back and see them again next year.

Not unless they're doing your business taxes. I'm glad you had a good experience with H&R, but she acted how people are supposed to act....I know it's rare, but there are nice, friendly, helpful people out there. Send her a card or something...that would be thoughtful. It might be just what she needs to brighten her day as the next week will be murder I'm sure.

You may tip anyone you please. If you really want to do something nice for her, why not call and write her boss and give her a good recommendation? Send a fruit basket or a nice box of chocolates with a Thank You note too.

I assume you're joking. But just in case there are others who don't realize it, the answer is no. Tips are for servants, or people doing work that resembles that of a servant. Tips are not for professionals.

No, they aren't allowed to take tips. You should write her a personal note thanking her for her kind service and let her know you will be recommending her. Perhaps even call and compliment her to her supervisor.

No- don't tip the tax preparer, they are paid to do their job. No need to pay for her doing her job.

For what H&R Block charges me to do my taxes they should be tipping me for coming in! :)

No, that is a conflict of interest. She would be viewed as accepting a "bribe" to pad your tax return. If you liked her, send her a thankyou card like it was suggested.
