I'm 24 and will be graduating this may. I'm currently working at two part time jobs, one for 5 years and one I just got. The new one is this assistant job for this very NEW small company. This job is really just to build up my skills and resume until i get a REAL ONE this fall. however, this company is so NEW that everything is so unorganized and I'm the only assistant my boss has in the "office." There's only one computer and one printer. No fax machine. There's not much in the office. There's piles of things to be done and it's a little overwhelming. The pay is kind of low ($9 an hour) and already after the first day, my head is aching from all the stuff I have to do. She also expects me to know a lot of computer stuff, like A LOT. Should I stick it out and learn my skills at this job (there are much to be done so I will definitely learn something but will have lots of stress) or get another assistant job at a bigger company? thanks

I have been in this exact situation before! The best way to handle this is make a list of things that need to be done. Take a look at that list of things and label them in order of importance. Go over this with your boss and stay on the same page always. Something might be more important to them then you think. Point is focus on one maybe two things at a time! Always keep an open communication path between you and your boss. If things are overwhelming tell them if you dont have the things you need to accomplish a task tell them. If they get annoyed with you or don't think you can handle the job oh well, what did you loose? Any new bussiness just starting out is kinda crazy. Once the ball gets rolling it should become easier. Plus it's great experiance so HANG IN THERE!

I would stick it out. For all you know, you could become the greatest assistant for your new boss and you could have a real impact on how well the company does if you get them started on the right foot. If you ever want to start your own business, it could be a real good learning experience to see how another business is set up.

Stick with it and do your best...every job is an experience that will help you grow into a better employee in one way or another

And you're posting this under Singles and Dating WHY?

I think you should stick it out until your better job comes along. It doesn't look good if you have lots of short time jobs on your resume. Who knows, if you play your cards right, this job you are at may explode with opportunities if it's a new company!

If you are feeling too much stress, you should start looking for a more satisfying position. Don't quit this job until you find another one. It is always easier to get a job when you are presently employed. It looks good on the resume. Good Luck!!
