Is this for a dog or cat?
make sure that they're on a flea and tick treatment available from your local pet shop or vet such as frontline, advantix, advantage, advocate, revolution etc.
Most dogs and cats shouldn't have problems with fleas once they're on a treatment but if they have a really bad infestation a rinse or shampoo can be used as well.
Fido's is made to work especially well in conjunction with flea and tick treatments so its a good choice, otherwise there's plenty of others that you can get from a pet store.
Flea and tick collars are also good but they can't be chewed by the dog or get wet.
If you cannot get rid of the fleas go see your vet to see what else is available.
For ticks most treatments will only kill them for a few weeks so daily checks are still important. If your dog/cat has a tick take them to the vet immediately as they can cause some serious damage.
hope this helps.

I've used Frontline for years & it has worked great for all my dogs. From cats to 5 lb poodles to 80 lb chow mix. On the bigger dogs, I found putting 1/2 between the shoulders & the rest at the base of the tail works really good. Don't try the cheaper stuff like Bio or Hartz as they wash off when you bathe your dog whereas the frontline does not. I live out in the country & ticks, fleas & chiggers are a real issue but since I use this product I've not had any problems.

If ticks are a concern then Frontline is the best choice. Advantange/advantix both work well on fleas but won't give you good tick control. Apply it once a month, if it's really bad where you're at (like Florida is) you can apply it once every three weeks, or alternate advantage and frontline at 2 week intervals (use advantage on the 1st and Frontline on the 15th for example)

Yes, absolutely, here are the steps:
+ get a flea preparation from your vet, like Frontline, Stronghold/Revolution or Advantage. Don't bother with petshop stuff - useless! Frontline treats ticks, Revolution does ear mites and tapeworms.
+ this needs to be applied to cats every four weeks, or dogs every 8 weeks.
+ the house will also need to be treated with a veterinary spray like Indorex, Acclaim or Staykil. You need to vacuum after spraying, and maybe do two treatements. All pet bedding and sofas will also need this treatment.
Stick with veterinary preparations, use as directed and you and your pets will be safe from fleas!
(please note - make sure spot-ons get on the SKIN, not the fur - part the fur to expose the skin!)

Some people give their animals Garlic. You can also have yours Dipped at your dog or cat groomers. Many people "Pick" through the fur and feel for Ticks and then remove them by lighting a match, blowing it out and holding the Hot end on the Tick which makes them pull their heads out of the skin which they embed into. Grosse, but true.
Your Vet can give you something or tell you if there's anything else you can give or do.
Good Luck. That's what everyone I know does for the little buggers...
