because it annoys them, it rubs them the wrong way they can't live like they want according to the bible so they figure if they disprove it then they are free from it.
I wonder why don't they bash Hinduism, Scientology, Buddhism or any other religion they only go after the truth.
and it's sad because the truth will set you free

Because, to simplify, religions have holy text books that begin by stating that there IS a god and then the rest of the book tells of what the God's message is. ONe does not have to read the rest of the book when they disagree with its beginning statements in the holy books; that is that there is a God to begin with.
To reverse your question, why dont religious people study what science is before trying to get their beliefs into science classroom via creationism and intelligent design, and possibly into government.
Re: some post above. We DO bash other religions but since the majority of this nation is christians and christians bring up the bible, we focus on targetting 'raesoning' based on the bible.
To reverse your question; why dont religions bash each other because their religious teachings dont agree with each other.

Many self-described atheists are actually deists who reject organized religions who turn everything political or seek power. Diests humbly believe in a remote supreme being that humans attempt to describe through their various silly religions. These religions really don't know jack about God, their attempts to claim God for themselves are seen as arrogant and presumptuous by deists. Most of the founding fathers of the United States were deists and this is why they believed in the separation of church and state- they saw how bad this was for Europe and wanted better for the fledgling USA. It has worked well so far.
Deists often just tell people they are atheists because they don't want organized religions to "claim" their private relationship with God.

Do you find it ironic that something so inherently full of "truth" should require studying?
What should I study? I've read the entire Bible and it didn't change my perspective. (Actually it might have steeled my resolve.) Are you telling me that I need someone to tell me what I should be getting out of the book? If it's god's devine message then it shouldn't need a secular interpreter should it?
So if I read the Bible and then allow some expert to tell me how to interpret it, then doesn't his *interpretation* become more important than the Bible itself?
If someone tells me what the Bible means then they're not guiding, they're indoctrinating. To me that means that everyone for the last 2,000 years or so has done nothing but perpetuate the beliefs of the generation before him. That makes it a cultural tradition and there's nothing supernatural about that.

I am better versed on the Bible, the Koran, and the Book of Mormon than most people of those faiths. I have also studied about a half dozen others religions to a lesser extend, and overall I do consider myself knowledgeable on the subject.
Faith in religion is the most common form of mental illness. In learning about religions, I hope to be able to help others leave their faith and find truth.

You'd be surprised to learn that the majority of atheists know more about most prominent religions and their associated texts than those who worship in that religion. For the most part, atheists have read and studied most religions in a search for truth and fact.
I have read the bible, the koran, the talmud and many other texts, taken bible studies and classes, spoken to religious leaders of many denominations. I come to the same conclusions every time... there cannot possibly be a god that created us and cares for us. There just can't be.
That is my truth... your mileage may vary.

Some just like to come in, look at the questions and answer as well. It isnt all bashing done by theists. Other religions are guilty of it as well. The R&S category is always open for debate, regardless of belief.

I was raised Catholic for 14 years of my life, thank you very much. And I read the entire Bible before I came to the conclusion to become an atheist.
Granted, I'm shakier on my atheism for the other 1,900+ gods like Zeus, Hera, and Aphrodite because I have not studied many religions in depth, but all are united by one delusional commonality: faith in things that cannot be proved.
I need evidence to validate religion. So far, there is none.
When I "bash," religious belief, it is little more than fun mudslinging on an anonymous board. It's far more innocent than using government to force my beliefs onto somebody else.

I have 21 units in courses directly related to religion (these would be in a combination of the UC/CSU system, in which a semester long class is 3-4 units.)

truthfully many Atheists do learn the non secular fabric and claims. it is how all of us be attentive to that issues like the conflict of Jericho did not ensue as informed interior the Bible because of the fact the information tutor that Jericho replaced into an deserted city while the Jews confirmed up. people who in no way truthfully check out the claims of the Bible are genuine believers who settle for what's interior the Bible as one hundred% certainty while that's straightforward to tutor it is not.

Personally, I have studied it. That is why I am atheist. Remember, scholarly study requires that you ask questions and seek truth, not simply submit to the accepted view. If you did the same, you probably would not be religious either.
