Hi...
I think this is a good esplanation,"Your brain is a thinking organ that learns and grows by interacting with the world through perception and action. Mental stimulation improves brain function and actually protects against cognitive decline, as does physical exercise"

My simple observation here:
Sitting on your behind, doing nothing to stimulate your brain is not assisting in cognitive ability.
Moving your body outside of your surroundings, being stimulated by sight - sound - smell -and ideas, while breathing in fresh air and soaking up sunshine, all the while your blood is pumping fresh oxygen to all your body parts -- IS Assisting in Cognitive Ability through your participation.

From experience, I can say this: I was in a car accident, numerous brain functions were impaired following the incident. I found a way to increase my concentration and decision making skills -- Through the use of a video game requiring hand-eye coordination. I would engage myself in the game of "Bounce-Out" in times I was not able to make decisions or to speak an intelligent sentence. Daily I used this game at my most inadequate moments. Steadily I have regained concentration and decision making and speech - I believe, due much to the brain exercise of the Bounce-Out game.

I can't. But, I joined the YMCA and started working out. I work out two days a week and then the other three I swim. Weekends off. Since then, I quit walking into walls and stumbling over stuff.

A guy jogged by my house everyday. He appeared to have disabled motor skills, as if injured in a car accident. Over time I noticed he appeared to be in more control.
