Yes, and that spirituality comes from the emotional high I experience when I listen to music, create a painting, understand new concepts, or express my love for a family member.
It is a spirituality rooted in the joys of life, not in the belief in deities or doctrines. I define spirituality as the elation of the human spirit, in a physical and psychological sense, not a supernatural one.

Atheism entails the absence of belief in the existence of God or other deities. It contrasts with theism, the belief in one or more gods. Definitions of atheism vary in multiple aspects:
range—from disbelief in specific conceptions of God to disbelief in anything supernatural;from mere absence of belief in gods to positive belief in nonexistence; and recognition—from the implicit unbelief of an infant to an explicit statement of disbelief. The term originated as a pejorative applied to anyone thought to be "godless" or to believe in false gods; this included those having opinions that stood in conflict with the established religions. Polytheists deemed monotheistic views atheistic; early Christians, for example, were persecuted as atheists by authorities of the Roman Empire. Today, the term "atheist" is not as disparaging. In Western culture, atheists are frequently assumed to be irreligious or non-spiritual. However, religious and spiritual belief systems such as forms of Buddhism that do not advocate belief in God or gods, have been described as atheistic Hinduism includes both theistic and atheistic forms Secular philosophies such as humanism, rationalism, and naturalism have been associated with atheism. However, there is no one ideology or set of behaviors to which all atheists adhere.

I'm an atheist and I believe in spirits. While I don't believe in God, I do believe in other things, so yes, I think we can have a spiritual existence.

Atheists can be spiritual. Spirituality is having a connection with something greater than oneself. Atheists have nature, humankind, the universe...

Absolutely!
I don't subscribe to this archaic notion that one has to believe in "the spirit" to be "spiritual." That's a narrow dogmatic view of spirituality. It is meaningless.
Spirituality is being healthy and harmonious. It means to have a greater understanding of reality. It means to be at peace.

The problem here is to come up with an adequate definition of what it means to be "spiritual". Would this be a good thing, or a bad thing, and why?

Good question.
Obviously not in the religious sense.
I guess it depends on your definition of spiritual. I think some people would consider meditation spiritual even if it was not in a religious context.

No. An athiest does not believe in something outside the material world. That's the whole point of theism. Believing in some omnipresent deity or deities

Sure, I have a spiritual existance with nature, I find when I am outside after a storm, or even outside on a nice sunny day I feel calm, and at peace. Alot of my Jewish, and Christian freinds say they feel this way after they visit their sinagog/church.
