no its not a good plan.
you are gona lose only water weight and muscle NOT fat by undereating - consuming less calories than a person in coma.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

It is possible to lose 30 ponds in 4 months. Going to the gym for an hour a day will definitely help the most. Maybe you should start out at 30 mins a day, so you dont burn yourself out at first then gradually build up to one hour.
I would suggest for the diet part, to up your protein intake, and water consumption, try for 64. oz of water a day. Protein builds muscle mass which burns more calories! You could also try for 3 days out of the week(every other day,or 3 days straight, it doesnt matter) to limit yourself to no more than 60 carbohydrates. This will help with bloating, and belly fat. Also during those 3 days eat alot of extra protein, which red meat, cheese, eggs have the highest content of protien.
I used this method myself and I promise if dont eat alot of junkfood on the between days, you and others will notice the difference the first 2 weeks.

Obviously, it depends. Most good weight loss programs have you loose a 2-3 pounds a week (I THINK).
Points to keep in mind
1) Make sure you find a form of exercise you enjoy enough you will actually do. I got into martial arts because it was fun and I would DO it. I couldn't get myself to jog on a treadmill or similar activities.
2) Eat better. DUH. You know. Watch the junkfood. I would recommend getting it out of the house. I will eat it if we have it, so I try to not have it. I don't carry cash so I won't be as tempted to go through drive throughs for junk. Sure, I could use my credit card. But that takes more effort.
3) Only weigh yourself once a week. Look for general trends. Daily weighing shows little ups and downs. Look at weekly stuf
4) Keep a journal. What you ate and what you did. BE HONEST! You're writing to yourself, so lying is just stupid here. Then you can see... MAN! I ATE TWENTY TWINKIES THIS WEEK! LOL
Just tips I've learned.

I think the best way to lose weight and keep it off is to change your eating habits. It takes 6 weeks to break a habit but only 3 weeks to develop a new one. Exercise helps too.
Any weight loss has to be designed for you by knowing yourself. For example, most of the time I just don't have an idea of what I want to eat, so I eat something low calorie and low in fat. When I have a craving, I satisfy it quickly so I don't go overboard.
Another trick is take a multi-vitamin with every meal. This typically gives you a little kick of energy that your mind will relate as a positive aspect of eating better. Thus, the vitamin makes you feel good as you loose.
It takes 3,500 calories to make a pound. We typically need 2,000-2,500 calories a day to sustain our ideal weight. Dropping to, say 1,200 to 1,500 calories a day will cause you to lose about 2 pounds a week. Toss in a bit of walking and you easily add another pound. This makes for about 3 pounds a week meaning 30 pounds in a mere 10 weeks.
Eat foods you enjoy. Nobody does well eating food they don't like. Moderation is the key. For example, if you like to munch on potato chips, divide a bag of chips in to 7 servings so you can enjoy a serving a day. This works. I used to sit in front of the tube and eat most of a bag of chips in one setting.
Another trick is make eating all you do when you eat. Dish out half the portion you normally would, savoring it. Then get up from the table promising to wait 20 minutes before you go back for the second half of your normal portion. It is likely you'll feel full and forget going back for seconds.
Hunger equals defeat. Eat when you get hungry. To delay eating means you want a larger quantity of foods
Losing weight is always easier than your mind thinks it is, so go ahead and prove your thoughts wrong.
This worked for me. I went from 268 pounds to 190 pounds in about 6 months.

I've always heard that drinking nothing else but water, and eating a normal three meal a day diet, with no snacks, at first, will take off a lot of weight real fast. And working out, of course.

You will end up sick sooner than skinny. Your body needs to have fats and carbs and iron and protiens not in v8, not to mention your stomach lacking solid foods will reak havoch with your overall digestion. My friend cut out caffiene, and ate tons of fresh fruit and veggies (which she did not use to eat) along with a more balance diet and excercised 1 hr/day minimum and lost 25 llbs in like 3 months. She lost huge inches so she looked like she lost more like 50 lbs and she is very toned. (muscle weighs more that fat)
