>It plays the role of a much-overrated myth. It has no real role in modern society, other than impeding the progress of the sciences.<

The bible still has a role to play. If you actually read the bible and what it has to say. the ossuary is not a proven fact, the gospel of Judas is not a true book of the bible and the DA vinci code is a work of fiction.

The Bible continues to be the foremost authority in western civilization. For example the person who will be elected president next year will most likely take the oath of office with the one hand on the Bible. America claims a minimum of 60 million Born Again Christians who look to the Bible for spiritual enrichment and guidance. Nothing else in ancient literature has such an effect on the world. Not the Quran, not the teachings of Buddha, not the Communist Manifesto, etc.

It serves as interesting conversation starters. Considering that the things you mentioned are arguments against the divinity of christ and accuracy of the bible, I take it that you have an interest in the truth. Christians don't accept the gospel of Judas because it does not appear in their bible, and it doesn't appear in their bible because it contradicts the view that Judas was the betrayer that should have his own special place in hell.

It's all great conversationalist material, but in the end, people do not care about the truth of the bible in American contemporary society. They think their bible is the real thing and have rejected everything else as a cunning devil's deception to get them to stray. If the bible has any role in contemporary society other than for argumentative and conversational reasons, it is that of promoting the very things they claim to be against, deception and evil.

But of course, there's nothing evil about their bible, nothing sinister and manipulative or inherently wrong in the bible. It was perfectly written and delivered by god himself through primitive people who did things that our society has evolved beyond. We should all strive to uphold the morals and values promoted by this franken-religion's mix-and-match/pick-and-pull guide to living.

The Bible introduces the idea of one God_Those bones could be Jesus, his wife and families bones, cause the tombs have the circle in the pyramid emblem on them_ Judas had a special job, he had to turn Jesus in, so that Jesus may rise again_Children are what people have and Jesus was a person...The Bible is Gods book, but it is not perfect... ...man has touched it.

The bible is an interesting historical document, and one that illustrates the limited thinking of many of those living in the times when the bible was written (promoting slavery, ill treatment of women and children etc. Much of the bible is contrary to genuine christianity). Other than that I do not believe it has any real significance for the contemporary world.

da vincicode is FICTION a Novel, it does not pertent to be real! there is no proof that is the "Jesus" from the bible, so 2/3 of your aggument is faulty,.
the gospel of judas- only changes the view of Judas not the other parts of the Bible so your point is?

Zip where I live. I've not heard anything from a Bible, nor have I seen one in years. It's almost invisible. And thinking back farther, there were a couple of Bible sightings 4-6 years ago with door-to-door JWs. Otherwise, it's been >3 decades.
