If you want a credit report without using a credit card, then stay away from FreeCreditReport.com.
AnnualCreditReport.com is the only government approved website to get your free credit reports. Under the FACT Act, you're allowed one free report per bureau, every 12 months.
You do not need a credit card or have to sign up for monitoring services.

A rejection isn't always about bad credit and missing payments. It might actually be that the bank that runs the card doesn't think you earn enough money to support your rent, student loans and a new credit card. Check the rejection letter for the actual reason (however vague it might be). If you were turned down for something in your credit report, the letter will say so and mention that you're entitled to a free copy from the reporting agency they used.

Well, you can get one free credit report per year. Check that, you need your social security number to have a credit report. If you don't have one, you don't have credit. If you have an apartment or a loan, or a bank account, or even utility bills, you do have credit. Just check your credit score online, and that is what you have. You don't need to have a ton of credit to get a loan, just a good score. I wish you luck with your home.

If you have SSN you can get a credit report. Try going to a local bank for help - banks have connections with credit reporting agencies.
