My good friend who is almost 40 has really big poofy hair. She can't seem to find a good guy, but I think a part of the reason (at least now) is that she has the same hair style she did from 1985. Is there any way that I can get her to realize that her hair is really out of style?

How about inviting her to get a makeover w/ you? Talk about needing to update or freshen your look.

Do some research & find an excellent hair stylist in your area. Allure reviews salons all over the U.S. & they have a directory on their website, http://www.allure.com/

May it a I'll do it if you will too kind of thing. Work up to it as you go shopping, look at magazines at the bookstore cafe or watch TV (ex. What Not to Wear on TLC).

She may be staying w/ that style 'cause it "works" w/ her hair & she has no idea of what else she can do w/ it so expose her to the idea under the guise of asking for her opinions about your hair.

You don't have to commit to a radical change for this. You can just say something like, my hair has been harder to manage so I'm looking for cute new cut to make it more full or quicker to style, etc.

Good luck.

If someone has the same hairstyle for more than 20 years then good luck getting them to change. Maybe get her a gift certificate to a salon. They may be able to talk her into something more trendy (or less embarrassing).

I'd say be subtle about it and just sit down with her with a fashion or hairstyle mag and go through it together. Ask what would look good on you, and tell her what styles she would look good with. Then suggest going with her to a salon and getting it done. Just be subtle about that being your motive and be friendly about it.

Treat her to a beauty day and talk to the stylist ahead of time and maybe she could help...sometimes it just needs to be jump started with a color or a little flattery...women seem to listen to men hairdressers...a straight good looking one gets the hormones going

tell her to look in the mirror?

just kidding.

do it subtly..
maybe when you're with her one day, point out someone else's hairstyle on the street or in a magazine and tell her that it would look great on her.
or get a haircut/new hairstyle yourself and tell her how great it made you feel.
