Hi.
I believe it is wrong for a Christian to seek to communicate with the dead. It is forbidden in the Bible.
I wrestled with this desire myself when I became very interested in ghost hunting. I bought tons of equipment and joined a local ghost hunter group. As much as I felt it was going to be very exciting, I also felt I wasn't trusting God for all my needs. So I backed out.
I finally came to the conclusion that God has chosen not to reveal certain things to us for a reason. He has asked us not to consult with mediums. I believe mediums and people who seek them cannot accept that there are things in this world we are not meant to know. For me, to seek the help from a medium would be like me betraying God. He has said He will provide my every need. I must trust that. Seeking anything more from any other source is, for me, like spitting in God's face. So, I simply thank God for all that he has given me to know and trust Him for that which I do not know. I compare it to a parent/child relationship. There are certain truths you don't tell a child until they are ready for it. I believe God withholds information from us for our own good. He will let us know what we need to know in His perfect timing.
Now another thing to consider when consulting "the dead": Consider that demons have been around for centuries and they probably know our family history better than we do. They could be mimicking a loved one in order to entice you away from God. All mediums that I know of eventually directly contradict the Bible teaching. Most will start saying there is no Hell and there are no demons or a devil. This is flat out calling God a liar as far a I'm concerned.
So, be careful.

I went to a psychic once before I became a Christian. I did not realize it was wrong to do so. It was really just for fun. She told me things that were correct about my childhood. She told me what would happen to me when I was grown. She also said that I could change my fate now that I knew what it was. I did not feel any evil but I did feel a sense of shame and did not know why. Later I learned God does not want us to see fortune tellers or mediums and such. He wants us to depend on Him and trust in Him. There is also another reason for us not to do this. The devil uses his power and the power of his demons to make us weak and forget about God. The fortune teller who told me the things about my childhood had a demon that she called a spirit guide. This spirit guide told her the things about my past. Remember, the demonic forces have been around since before any human. They know things about us.

Yes it was wrong. The devil is able to tell you things about you and your family also. The devil can appear as a beautiful angel. John Edwards is not of God. The voices he hears are not of dead loved ones, they are demonic spirits. Notice how he makes things very appealing throwing in god (little g) now and then. But John Edwards is all about John Edwards.

Now you have done it. You have now opened the door for all the religious zealots to come down on you and condemn you.
In the Old Testament they had what you call Seer's and although they were frowned upon - Men of God used them and at times where directed to them from the Prophets of God.
Now in the New Testament The Wise Men were prophesied to about the coming of Jesus as was Pharaoh. They had Seer's and Astrologers.
Now if the Old and New Testament use them then why can't you. The Bible tells you to kill them all but they used them themselves. One Contraction in the Bible I will not understand.
Just remember that it is the body that is dead not the soul or the Spirit of the person. You pray don't you?

i might desire to respond to this on diverse levels. at first - incorrect attitude. faith gets you deluded, only like those church homes that believed in geocentrism or a flat earth. with out searching for/using testable information, there is not any thank you to be sure your ideals are genuine or fake. only asserting "i've got self assurance! i be attentive to it is genuine! I do! I Do! I do" would not in itself make it so. So sure, it is incorrect to bounce to conclusions with out information. faith is a undesirable thought. It additionally encourages rejection of information that conflicts with the commonly used dogma. Secondly - incorrect wisdom. on an identical time as a god may well be perplexing to disprove, concepts like an earth or universe being 6000 years old are, nicely, nonsense. only one occasion - there are various. i be attentive to this would not mean all Christians right here, besides the undeniable fact that that's a variety. that's the end results of not getting the perspective ideal - you bounce to conclusions and get solutions that thoroughly conflict with strongly verified documents. Thirdly - incorrect message. There are codes of behaviour and expectancies that followers are inspired to purchase into. Now morality is mandatory and might choose peer tension, yet Christianity's are nonetheless regularly consistent with a bronze-age society's, on an identical time as secular societies are plenty extra powerful at reaching consensus and organic balances. Many codes are person-friendly and straight forward everywhere, including do not homicide, yet others are actually not, including allowing/banning gay marriage. there is obviously some thing incorrect while Christians make up a proportionately extreme element of penal complex populations, yet i don't think of it is truthfully understood or been studied. Fourthly - incorrect wish/administration stability. many human beings in impoverished societies might nicely be stored that way by using the effectual elites using the promise of a extra powerful afterlife. this ability human beings can stay cowed, terrified of a hell in the event that they revolt or only rock the boat, and arranged to submit with a undesirable existence because of the fact a extra powerful one will persist with. in the event that they have been to have self assurance that that's the only existence, they may well be much less prepared to waste it and the injustices may well be tackled with plenty extra vigor and standard help. diverse believers might have diverse interpretations, however the above describe the main straight forward issues.

Yes: as someone else before me said read 1 Sam.- There is no doubt some people can talk to and get answers from something in the spiritual world (BUT IT IS NOT GOD OR ANY OF HIS SERVANTS).
And as far as "feeling" evil, how could you? you can not feel the teachings of the Holy Spirit or you would have never went seeking a medium.
Evil works by making Christians "Not" feel their presents.

I think you already know the answer to that, or else you wouldn't be asking. Consulting mediums is strictly forbidden by the Bible. John Edwards may be able to tell you some things, but he derives his power from demonic spirits.
I suggest that you confess your sin to God and ask His forgiveness. You also need to plead the Blood of Christ over yourself and all that pertains to you. When you consult a medium or commit other occult-based sins, you have opened yourself up to demonic forces. You could experience anything from strange mood swings, depression, or unexplained "accidents."
Demons cannot cross the "Bloodline," so you need to place yourself under the protection of Christ.

yes. It is said in Isaiah 8:19 and 20 stay away from those who mutter and peep. We are not to deal with that spirit world. That is evil and Satan is very deceptive. Stop dealing with that and trust in God only God. He is the resurrection and the Life.

Yes, it is wrong. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 - "Let no one be found among you who... who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD.
Satan is tricky, John Edwards probably doesn't eve realize that Satan has his hooks in him. If it were not possible to do this, why would God warn us not to do it?
