GET TO A DOCTOR!! My understanding of ileostomies (I work in health care I see A LOT of ileostomies) is that something that large cannot be passed without serious issues.

Symptoms of a blockage include: no stool coming through (ileostomies will 'work' 95% of the time) for an hour or more, abdominal cramps and pain, nausea and sometimes a fever.
There is a good chance the coin will come through just fine (depending on how big it is) but if it doesn't, be aware of the blockage symptoms and take him to the doctor when they appear.
DO NOT give your son any laxatives to try and get things moving. They are a no-no for ileostomates and can severely dehydrate us in the process.
Good luck.

If he has an ileostomy, shouldn't you alert the doctor that he has swallowed a coin? Most kids, we can just wait for it to pass, but his stoma may not be big enough for it to pass. If you wait for symptoms, it could be too late to avoid danger.

Our daughter swallowed a dime. We call the Doctor & they said to take her to the ER to make sure it didn't get stuck in her airway - Even though she was be breathing normally at the time. Can you do an xray w/ an ileostomy? If so- I would take him in. I would also call & ask my Doctor either way!
NOTE- answer #1 says to give him plenty of bananas??!! That will constipate him- & you're gonna want him to poop. I would advise against the bananas LOL

I agree with the previous person who suggested calling the doctor. I would be afraid that the coin will not fit through the stoma. It doesn't hurt to call!
