i have a gold chandelier and want to paint it and add something to up date it?

I have alot of gold in my decor and would like to up date it to silver or a dull black .Can I paint the gold part of my shower enclosure another colour?

Yes, but use a good primer first, like Kilz or Binz for metals.
Then spray paint the item. Best thing to do with hanging lamp hardward is to hand it from a shepherd's hook or clothes line, etc. outdoors. You can always cover the hook with drop cloth. Put a drop cloth under it...and spray paint the item, use a small brush to touch up any drips from over sprayed areas. For other items that cannot be taken outdoors, prime, then paint with brush. Use masking tape to keep paint and primer off ceramics in bathroom. You can paint any metal. Using the primer for metal will help the paint adhere. If you paint the track that your shower door glides in, make sure after you paint that you test the door a few times to make sure the paint doesn't get down inside the track and basically glue your shower door shut. There are many, many faux metal finishes to choose from, Rust-o-leum makes several. You are not limited to silver and black.

Depending on the enclosure itself, it might be better, and cheap enough to simply buy a new one. If it seems like it's a standard size, like over a bath tub or whatever, just visit Home Depot and look at the replacement ones. Trying to paint it will just look bad, and won't work. You'll probably save time by installing a new one. You can get moderately priced units from $175-$300. You'd spend at least $50, more like $75 for proper paints, and of course you aren't guaranteed a good outcome.

If it's a shiney metal, you'll have to sand down the metal to rough it up otherwise the paint won't stick
