today, there are all sorts of analyzers....some are hightek.....
not much is done by eye exam...perhaps a urinalysis...most are done on machines that use enzymatic testing using reagents that bind w/serum and give values that are compared to standards.........some are colormetric, change w/concentration giving a value of what's being tested ,ie,glucose,ca,etc.in the case of bacteria and virus, these are done thru dna tests.....so the answer is no eyeballs....................good luck.........

It depends both on the lab the doctor uses as well as the test being done. However, if by visual eye inspection you mean they just look at the blood that is not the case. When testing for viruses or bacteria various staining techniques and additives are used with the blood sample on a number of petri dishes. Using the various tests the bacteria or virus can be narrowed down to the type of virus or bacteria it is. In the event the bacteria or virus is classified into its grouping but an exact match is not found - this may indicate a new strain.

It is certainly done at a lab by someone who works in the lab, whether the lab is in house or somewhere else. I think it depends what they're testing for what they do. Sometimes they'll count your blood cells (if thats what they're testing) by hand, most often nowadays computers do it. Other tests may be done using chemicals or antigens or something.
