IAMS used to be a really good food, years ago. But the company has been bought and sold so many times that the quality has gone way down hill. Same thing with Science Diet brands. They need a good quality food where the first ingredient is meat, no corn or fillers. I recommend trying EVO, Natural Balance, By Nature, or Blue Buffalo. They're spendy, but they're good food. If you want a decent quality food that isn't too bad quality and price - you can try PetSmart's brand - Authority. I've fed that to mine and they seem to do well on it. I used to feed IAMS to my cats years ago, but stopped once the quality went down - I could tell because there was more waste in the litterbox and they seemed to eat more of it than they used to. When you have a better quality food, you spend less on litter too bcse they absorb more of their food vs it coming out the other end.

My cats love Iams. It's not on the recall list despite what a few others have posted earlier. You can check both the complete recall list and the Iams website for verification.
Overall, as a premium pet food, it is a good food. Nothing against any of the other premium foods, I'm just stating a fact. It combines a healthy set of ingredients, provides an excellent source of proteins (animal proteins versus plant proteins) and is well balanced.
If your cats like it, it makes a good choice.

My cats love IAMS dry food in all varieties. (Contrary to what has been stated, the only IAMS dry on the recall list is the kind available by prescription only and it is for severely overweight cats). I think it is better for them -- they have thick, shiny, silky coats, bright eyes and are very healthy and active. One benefit of IAMS is that the litterbox stinks less. It is also readily available at most grocery stores and discount stores. It is what I'd call "medium" priced.
My cats will also eat just about anything whether it is good for them or not. (Sorta like kids). However, they will not eat IAMS canned, just turn up their noses and walk away. I only give canned food if they are sick because the smell of it encourages them to eat. Mine don't like much variety either. I think their needs are quite simple.

Iams is on the recall list. The thing you need to beware about lots of brands like Iams and other foods you can by at the grocery store and places like Petco and Petsmart is they have lots of additives such as Phospherous that actually tingles on their tongue ( kind of like when we drink a coke.. that tingling) and of course the cat is going to become addicted to that tingling. Besides the fact is most of us can say we like McDonalds food.. it tastes good to us.. that doesn't mean that we should be eating that every meal every day. We need food that is more nutritious especially if we are a cat or dog that eats the same type of kibble for long periods of time.
Many people will say their cat will not eat foods that are new to them... this is true at first. Cats do not like change in their routines. That is why we transition. Find a better food but for a week or so use some of the old food more of it at first...til finally all of the new food and none of the old. Cats and dogs will not starve themselves.. they just know how to push their owners buttons to make them feel sorry for them and continue to feed them junk food because they like it.

No. A freind gave me a sample. One of my cats - the dry food addict - actually turned up his nose at it. I'm glad now since I have heard a lot of negative comments and testimonials about Iams pet food.
