I would like for someone to tell me what is racial about nappy headed. I am white as snow and I am nappy headed so does that mean I should raise hell because someone said that? Sorry but I would laugh if somebody called me that.

Then are terms like "pickaninny", "flip", "wog" all acceptable?

These are poor terms to refer to people under any circumstance

There is nothing racially degrading by calling someone "nappy headed". I think people are becoming too sensitive.

How many times have women of either African or Latin descent said, "My hair is so nappy, let me get a relaxer?"

So why the big fuss when someone else says it?

I did not see or hear the original comments, but I am sure after a four quarter game of basketball, the players' hair was NAPPY!

Nappy head is considered racist because it what some human beings search for suggestion from with as turbans. If a racist see a guy wearing a turban they're going to call him a nappy head, properly thats what they do in australia besides diverse countries would have diverse meanings

It is unbelieveable. What ever happened to free speech? Granted the gov't is not cracking down; however, firing a white male for fear of lost sponsor revenue is oppressive.

White males are the oppressed minority today. Bill Mayer went through the same stuff when he said the 911 terrorists were 'clever.' Although it was a terrible act they did, it did take some smarts to carry out their plan.

How come Rosie O'Donnell has not gotten canned yet?
Think of all the nasty stuff she says about Trump and Tom.

Well I've included the items I read this morning. I think they might answer your question.

Although I don't have a stand in this issue, I would be upset if I had a daughter and her team gets called a ho. But I would also let go, unlike sharptongue.

According to Webster's New World Dictionary:
nappy (nape) -pier, -piest
adj.
1 covered with nap; hairy, downy, shaggy, etc.
2 kinky (sense 1): said esp. of the hair of blacks and used derogatorily or contemptuously
nappiness
n.

Thus, nappy is associated with the hair of some blacks and is derogatory.

First of all, Imus had no room to be calling these girls nappy headed...UM, HAS HE LOOKED IN THE MIRROR lately??

Second of all, who is he calling a ho?!? That was COMPLETELY unecessary. Completely.

He was trying to be funny and it just didn't work.
You get what you deserve Imus. That's just the way it goes.

And lastly, you CAN'T make a comment like that and not expect black people to get offended. Black people WILL NOT let you get away with it. Because if blacks don't speak up, it's like it's okay. And it's not.

Read some history of how slaves were forced to be stored in the bottom of ships for months on end; living, sleeping in their own feces and urine. Not being able to wash or comb their hair or take care of person needs without being chained to the floor, preventing them from doing so. When the slaves were walked from the ships, their hair was matted, dread locks and the slave masters consider their hair to be dreadful, awful looking. This "Nappy" originated from hundreds of years in the past and continues to this very day. Wake up American and all those who make up the Americas.

It wasn't necessarily racist. In fact, I laughed too. Some more of my black friends laughed, also. It was kind of funny, but sooooo wrong. After I got over the funny part, I was mad. lol. I'm still laughing. I'm sorry. hahaha. Omg, It's still wrong though. It was definitely more sexist than racist.

Its a stereotype. Nappy has historically had a negative connotation and it would'nt offend you because its never been used to make you feel inferior or in a condecending way. Its offensive in the same way it is when someone asks, "Can I touch your hair?"

It became racist, because Imus was singling out the black players of a multiracial team and calling them whores.

Al Sharpton didn't make this racial. He did blow it up to a level that wasn't necessary. Growing up, being called nappy headed was a mean, hurtful slam. But Imus admitted fault and apologized - that should have been the end of it unless they plan to go after everyone who slams a group irregardless of that person's race (there are a lot of people of various races out there who have a microphone and say some shady crap about others with no worries).
