I was convicted of Criminal Mischeif 7 yrs ago and it is hindering me from getting a good paying job because it is a felony. I've heard of a process that can have it taken off my record because i haven't gotten in anymore trouble since then.

You can petition the court for an expungement of the record - this doesn't mean you weren't convicted, it just means that anyone doing a background investigation on you probably wouldn't find the conviction.

The way to do it is to write a petition - or even a letter - to the court that convicted you. You'll need to appear in person, and the smart person would bring along a lot of character witnesses.

If the judge thinks it would serve the community to have your record look clean, he can expunge the conviction record.

Good luck.

(NOT A Lawer) In some states and counties you can get them expunged, but everyone is different so you need a lawer or go to your county law libaray or the libary in the county that that you did the crime. Hope it helps you. Not all can be expunged but certain ones can (Not a Felon myself) but know of a lot.

EXPUNGEMENT IS FOR MISDEMEANORS

You must get felonies pardoned by the governor of your state to have them removed from your record.

Contact the District Attorney's office and ask them what you need to do to exsponge your record. Different states have different time limits and procedures. But they can point you in the right direction
