The APA Insurance Trust is a good bet for our field. Here is their website: http://www.apait.org/apait/

You can get up to 4 or 6 million of coverage for about $12,000 a year, which isn't bad when compared with other professions.

Malpractice Insurance For Psychiatrists

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor, so they do need malpractice insurance. Medical school takes four years after college, at which point you'd have a medical degree, but there are typically several years of additional training after medical school in your specialty area (ex. psychiatry).

No. Malpractice coverage, as you probably know, isn't one of the ones that companies are rushing to write. Each state has only a couple carriers, and in many states the state "Joint Underwriting Authority" is the ONLY carrier.

Pricing isn't cheap, but at least you're not going to be paying an ob's rates.

No carriers write in every state.

Your best bet is to ask through your professional organization locally, contact a local agent for quotes, or ask co-workers where they get theirs.

Check with the American Psychiatry Association or the American Psychotherapy Association. Many associations have special insurance programs or rates for their members.

That kind of information is rarely available to anybody outside the medical field.
