I play Football and I really suggest that you get (Gatorade rain)it is a thirst quencher like normal Gatorade but it has more water in it so it does not leave that acid like taste in your mouth.
(P.S. Lime is the best)

Don't over hydrate. Drink normally throughout the day, and no more than a pint, 16 ounces or 1/2 liter, 30 minutes before a race. Gatorade does not have enough electrolytes to actually help much. Have some orange juice or other fruits every day. A good warm-up will make a lot more difference than Gatorade.

Stick with water before your race and gatorade after to replenish. Gatorade before hand can really upset your stomach and make you feel heavy. Make sure you drink enough water than morning so that you are hydrated and sip some water before the race. Leave the gatorade for afterward to give your body back what you worked out of it during warmup cool down and your race. Hope that helps!

For a track meet it doesn't really matter. Either one is fine because they keep you hydrated. Just make sure that you sip and don't gulp it down. I would also recommend that you drink them at room temp. It will get into your system faster. The one advantage to taking Gatorade over water is for longer distances, because Gatorade replenishes your electrolytes. Hope the helps and good luck.

Unless you're running in extreme heat, water works best for me. Remember, Gatorade was invented at the University of Florida for use by the football team. If you've ever been to Florida in the summer, then you know what extreme is.....
Normal climate I think it's just great marketing that makes Gatorade so popular. I don't do sweets with running...
Good Luck

You need to keep yourself well hydrated with water before your event, Gatorade is only good after your event(especially when you have another event coming up). Gatorade was not meant to be drunk before, only after. Gatorade prevents overhydrating by rehydrating, not hydrating. The key word is "re". E mail me if you are confused or have any other questions about Track and Field or Cross Country.

Gatorade is good the day before the meet, but on the day of and immediately before racing, defiitely go with water. Then do gatorade after. Energize the day before, but just hydrate the day of. Gatorade can cause problems if you have it just before the meet.

Water. Because if you drink gatorade it stays in your mouth and it's all you can think about before and after the race.
