what is the best way to secure a micro braid?

I've been braiding for many years, and I've basically used glue to secure micro braids when braiding with straight hair, but some people don't like the glue. How do you tie the knot when using straight hair? Also, does anybody know if you tie the knot or use glue when braiding micros with wavy hair?
