I switched congregations with my religion to help with the spanish in our area... and I took spanish in high school, but I still have such a hard time. What has helped anyone who is now successful at speaking this language? Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. And I don't want to pay for a tutor of some sort or buy some program off the internet.

Hands down the best way is emmersion. I studied Spanish in school for over 6 years and learned very little. I then moved to Central America where I became fluent in 6 months. Take a trip to a Spanish speaking country and enroll yourself in a language school for a fews weeks. They are actually pretty affordable. You could probably do a month long trip to Guatemala for $2,000, including everything and three weeks in a language school and a week traveling.

If you can't do that emmerse yourself as best as you can here. Listen to Spanish music, watch TV in Spanish or with subtitles. Try to use the Spanish you know to think is Spanish as much as you can. When you count in your head, do it in Spanish. As you go through your day pick out some words or phrases to translate when you get home. Keep a Spanish journal with the words or phrases you learn each day.

Buena suerte.

The best way to do this is find someone who speaks spanish. This is the fastest possible way. These days you can find anyone on the internet. I know that may not be the safest thing to do, but that is what I did, and I am just fine. Talking over the phone doesn't hurt anything.

If you dont want to get a tutor or buy a program for learning then just give up, cause learning a language isn't as easy as pointers from some one who did get a tutor and programs. Its not like there expensive.buy textbooks and programs from out dated college versions, itll only cost like 30 bucks used.

well, the best way is to go to a Spanish speaking country.....but I guess just start by watching movies with subtitles in English, then you can graduate to TV lol. Try finding people to talk to.....practice makes perfect!

Que tengas suerte......

Really its just practice.
Check out some audio tapes or CD's from your library and immerse yourself in it as much as you can.

My best to you!
