Research does show that the black bits on BBQ food are carcinogens. However, if one eats BBQ infrequently and avoids really charred bits then I wouldn't worry about it. Moderation in all things! Heck, if we really looked at each food item we eat someone somewhere will tell us it's bad for us. Who can you believe? And - 'they' are always changing their minds, aren't they? Good today, bad tomorrow, good again, etc. Eat a healthy, balanced diet and have a BBQ once in a while. I know - eat BBQ fish! Maybe the Omega 3 oils will cancel out the risk?

I have heard this also. The "fumes" into the food or something like that. BUT if we all deferred from eating, breathing, drinking everything that has been talked about/etc...we would DIE..(from starvation & thirst)....Just bbq if you enjoy it and don't worry...

Digesting burned foods plus stomach acids creates cyclic organic compounds in your gut that are known carcinogenics.
Avoid all nitrates and burned foods
