The store has so many different ones to choose from I am overwhelmed. The 1% hydrocortisone cream is not strong enough.

R U LOOKING FOR OVER THE COUNTER OR PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE? OTC, THE HCT 1% IS ABOUT THE BEST. BUT, IF U WANT SOMETHING THAT REALLY WORKS AND QUICKLY (IT IS PRESCRIPTION THOUGH), TRIAMCINOLONE 0.1 % RUBBED IN TILL IT DISAPPEARS IS BY FAR THE BEST. IT MUST BE USED THOUGH EVEN A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER THE IVY DRIES UP. IT HAS WORKED EXCELLENT FOR ME AND MY KIDS. MY OLDEST IS 20 YRS OLD SO I WOULD SAY THAT IS TIME ENOUGH TO AHOW SAFE. BUT AS ALWAYS, I MUST ADVISE U NOT TO USE ANY MED WITHOUT TALKING TO UR DOCTOR FIRST! BUT REALLY, THIS HAS WORKED GREAT ON MY KIDS AND SEVERAL MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY. TO TELL THE TRUTH, I HAVE A DR. FRIEND WRITE ME THE GREAT BIG TUBES SO I DON'T RUN OUT BECAUSE WE USE IT ON JUST ABOUT ALL SKIN RASHES. AGIN IT IS TRIAMCINOLONE 0.1% TWICE DAILY UNTIL RASH DISAPPEARS THEN A COUPLE EXTRA DAYS TO GET WHAT IS NOT SHOWING. HOPE THIS HELPS. AND DON'T SCRATCH!!! GOOD LUCK.

Amazingly enough Mother Nature always has her antidotes very near her poisons...near most patches of ivy you will find jewel weed...a fine, taller plant with little orange/yellow flowers....if you crush a handful of the jewel weed in your hands and then rub it on your ivy rash, it should immediately relieve the itch & shortly thereafter relieve the rash entirely. If you do not find the jewel, you will find plantain, which are often called bunny leaves--they are the roundish green leaves that grow close to the ground, often right in your lawn...do the same with them. Wish I could tell you about the OTC's, but I lost interest with them after I started researching.

You could try Benadryl capsules or cream for the itching...or an Aveeno colloidal oatmeal bath...or calamine lotion?Try not to scratch it and eventually with time it will go away...

Or you could go to the dermatologist for a stronger medication..
