There is a procedure called independent verification. Information obtained from detainees at Guantanamo is verified by multiple sources and intelligence gathered through other means (surveillance, field intel., etc.) After independent verification the intelligence is deemed to be reliable or TRUE.
The "confessions" of the British soldiers on the other hand, have been disproved by the Brits GPS, supporting British ships and the Iraqi civilian transport ship the Brits had just searched. This means the Brits confessions were FALSE.

Iraqi and British sources both corroborate the fact that those sailors and marines were taken out of Iraqi waters.
The men being held at Guantanamo were captured during firefights with U.S. forces. You do the math there.

After almost a week strapped in the comfy chair being prodded with a fluffy pillow, they confessed.
Just imagine what they would have confessed to if they had been sent to GITMO or ABU GRAHIB.
The British show maps with the borders as they were before Sadaam invaded Iran. After the war there was never a return to pre war boundries.

We know the British who were captured by the Iranians were not doing anything wrong. Even Iran didn't accuse them of anything but trespassing in Iranian waters. According to the GPS data, as well as to the map coordinates the Iranians originally gave, as well as to an eye witness, they were taken in Iraqi waters.
Many of the people who have confessed to acts of terror under questioning at Guantanamo are known terrorists. They were taken while attacking US troops or while carrying out acts of terror. We know they were involved in terror attacks, and in some cases they admitted (bragged) about taking part in attacks long before they were captured.
