Proof that if you work hard enough at it, you can make the Bible back up any fool idea.

Whatever took place between Ham and Noah, why did Noah curse Ham's son Canaan, when Canaan is nowhere mentioned as having done anything? The Bible does not specifically answer this question. Ham was Noah's youngest son, and Canaan was Ham's youngest son. Perhaps Noah cursed Canaan because it is more painful for a father to see his child suffer than it is for a father to suffer himself. The other possible explanation is that Canaan was somehow involved in the incident, thereby bringing Noah's curse upon himself.

You are referring to Genesis 9:20
And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.
24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

Noah was drunk and asleep, and one of his sons Ham came in and accidentally saw him naked. He told his brothers about it, and they covered him. When Noah awakes, he is angry and curses, not Ham - the son who saw him - but rather Canaan one of Ham's son.

While is not stated in the story, it is implied that the "sin" was not merely seeing Noah naked, but rather something Ham's son Canaan had done to Noah while he was "out of it". The usually assumption is that it was sexual (and probably - since it is two males - homosexual in nature.) It is commonly believed that Canaan molested Noah.

If you follow Canaan through the Bible, he does NOT become "black". Rather his descendants settle into the "land of Canaan" and become the Canaanites. This modern day Israel. They are the people the Moses and Joshua and the Jews displace when they take over the Promised Land after the Exodus. Those who survived the Jewish invasion became the servants of the Jews (just as Noah had said). They were not black. They were middle eastern.

Several of Ham's other grandsons are listed later in Genesis as traveling south and founding what today are several of the "black" countries in Africa. So it appears that Ham's descendants would include the "black" race. But nowhere is a their color said to be because of the curse placed on Canaan.

Is that when you bought a 10 pound ham expecting 15 guests for Easter dinner. . .and nobody else showed up?

Trust me, that would definitely be the curse of ham!

Mainworry is the ONLY one who has the answer right. I was going to answer the same way without the Scripture, BUT I WAS going to let you know where they were. (the verses in Scripture) One MUST READ with Understanding and Knowledge of the Word of God.

The scripture about a drunken Noah troubles many. Study of God’s Word always sheds light.
Important to note twice for emphasis it is written, HAM THE FATHER OF CANAAN.

(Gen.9:18-25) And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. (19) These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. (20) And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: (21) And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. (22) And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. (23) And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. (24) And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. (25) And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

So what is the nakedness of his father, the nakedness of their father, or their father's nakedness?

(Lev.20:11) And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

(Lev.18:8) The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness.

Canaan was the child of Ham and his mother or Noah’s wife.

That is absolute rubbish, and not taught ANYWHERE in the Bible.

And as an aside, not that it really matters, but it was Canaan who was cursed.Of course, that had nothing to do with being black either.
